It is now the year 4,002, the future. It is almost as we had imagined. Flying cars, hovering buildings. Teleportation, but, it’s also very different.
Humans have found other planets, other solar systems with other lifeforms. Most humans prefer to stay on Earth, while others travel around the universe. The biggest fleet of travelers for Earth is the "Galactic Courage", a group of up to 6,000,000 people that travel to various planets, seeking peace, and new resources. But, then, there are the "Hybrids" or, the "Rebels" as some people refer to them.
On New Year’s day of 3,000 we were visited by a species of alien we’d not yet discovered. They were mostly like human, in appearance. They weren’t overly intelligent, but they respected the Earth itself for it’s nature more then humans. They were about two times our height, with darker skin. Not really black, but a very dark tan. They had gills as well as lungs, standing like gargoyles on their toes. Scales of black color ran up one side of their bodies, and down the other. They had either very, very short, or very, very long silver hair that seemed as soft as silk. They had long, spindly legs, and were very, very strong.
Back then, the "Hybrids" were just members of the "Galactic Courage", but, when these aliens, and those few met, a new future was created. Cursed and hated by the humans of Earth, those few humans fell in love with a few of the aliens, creating hybrid children.
Most of them were just human, with gills and super human strength. But some of them were the dark tan, some of them had claws and not toes.
But now, in the year 4,002 the "Hybrids" have often lived up to their name of "Rebels". They never follow any orders that may come to them, not that they get many orders. They are their own species. They have no home planet, but travel on hundreds of large ships. The alien species that helped create the Hybrids are still around, but as for the humans who loved them, they are gone. Relationships between the hybrids and the aliens often take place. But never a relationship between a human and a hybrid…….. never.
Chapter One: The Black Star
The Black Star rocked in space, sending Indoaniesa flying out of her bunk, onto the floor. Her room-mate, Tellerous looked over.
"Seems to me like we’re hitting another meteor shower, that’s the third time you’ve fallen out of bed tonight . Either a meteor shower, or your just having bad dreams." Indoan didn’t even bother to stand up. She smiled, and lifted up the bunks, using the strength she acquired from her father.
"I should have bad dreams, what with the fact that I’m related to those nasty humans. Blaugh.." Indoan made a face of utter disgust, and her the gills on her shoulders opened and closed twice. Tellerous just laughed, and looked over the bunk at Indoan with her white eyes. Both girls were hybrids. Tellerous resembled her mother more then her father, her mother who happens to be a pure alien, her father a hybrid. Teller had mostly that dark tan skin, a few scales here and there, especially around her eyes, her white, colorless eyes. She too had the same strength that Indoan did, but she also walked on her claws, not on her feet.
Indoan on the other hand resembled her mother, a hybrid more then her father. She inherited her father’s strength, and also had a few scales. A patchy row of dark tan scales ran down one side of her arms, and one side of her legs. She did walk on her feet, and had ice blue eyes, like her mother. But the two had become friends. Indoan put the bed down as Teller rubbed her colorless eyes.
"Do you think we could find something to eat? What time is it?" Indoan wondered over to the bathroom to check the clock, and pull up her silver hair. "It’s….. Wow. It’s only 7." Indoan muttered as she found a clip, and twisted her hair up into it. "I think they should be serving something, but if your as hungry as I am, it won’t matter what." Indoan walked back into the room as Teller was tossing on a new shirt, and belting her pants. Indoan admired her room-mate’s taste in cloths.
Today Teller was wearing a starch white shirt with the logo of the "Hybrids" and almost white tan pants. Indoan just slipped on her knee-high black leather boots, and tossed on her leather jacket, that also carried the Hybrid logo.
"Shall we?" Indoan asked, smacking the button to open the airlock door, Teller grinned, and the two girls headed down the long hall.
"HEY! Ristoc, what’s for breakfast!" Indoan shouted as she and Teller entered the cafeteria. The alien looked up at them from behind the counter.
"Fresh Sulmen and cacti." He replied gruffly. Teller laughed, Ristoc was her cousin, and always seemed older then he really was. It was quiet funny really. Sulmen was basically salmon, only from another planet, and cacti was cactus, from Earth. The aliens and the hybrids had become adapted to eating it. As Teller and Indoan sat down, Ristoc brought over the food.
"Hey, do you know where we’re headed? Are we still aiming for that new planet?" Teller asked as her cousin sat a plate in front of her, he grinned, and sat down at the end of the table.
"From what I heard, we are. The captain still wants to see the planet, since…. "Galactic Courage" doesn’t want to land there, he figures we can create allies there." Indoan nodded as she cut into her sulmen.
"Sounds smart."
"How far are we from the planet?" Teller had always told Indoan that she someday wanted to pilot her own ship. Into the furthest depths of space, and Indoan had always promised she’d join her.
"I don’t know, I can only listen to so much gossip at a time." Ristoc stood up, gave both of the girls a wink of his white eyes, and disappeared behind the counter.
"So, why do you think the humans don’t want to land on the planet?" Teller asked as the girls headed towards the end of the ship. Neither of the girls had a job to go to, it was Saturday, so they were off. They both shared the same shifts, Sunday, Tuesday, Friday and Thursday. Indoan worked with the weapons, and Teller worked with the navigation. Right now the girls were headed to play some games, chat, gossip, and have fun.
"Possibly because they found out the inhabitants aren’t like them." Indoan joked. Indoan had always been a rebel even to some of the others. She shared a hatred of the humans with a few of the others. Though many of the Hybrids just couldn’t understand the poor peace relationships between the species. Even though Teller was one of those, it didn’t bother her that Indoan’s opinion was different, and this went like-wise with Indoan.
The two girls turned a corner, and entered the back room of the ship. This room in the ship was one of the biggest rooms on the ship. It was a bar, a game room, a movie theater, a library, and much more. Hybrids and aliens alike flocked here while they were on off shift, today, the room was full. Indoan and Teller knew most of the people they saw. The two girls headed towards the library to do some reading.
They passed a few hybrid men sitting at the bar, talking about the ship. Indoan smirked at one of the hybrids in a brown jacket. He caught her smirk, and cupped his hands over his mouth, yelling over to her.
"Hey Indoan!" He pointed a finger at her, and motioned for her to come over. Indoan gave Teller a wink, and walked over there, adding an extra ‘swing’ to her hips. Indoan stood in front of the guy.
"Yes?" She said suavely. Trostco laughed, he and Indoan had been dating for a little over a month now. "You two headed out shopping?" He remarked running his hand down Indoan’s arm as she leaned onto the bar. He looked more like his father, who was an alien. He had the same, soulless and colorless white eyes that Teller had. He was covered in the dark tan skin, with scales here and there. In rather… remote places as well as Indoan had found out two nights ago, but that only made certain…. Pleasures more challenging.
"No sir, we are heading to the library. How about you? You just… ‘chilling’ with your friends?" Indoan gave a sly glance to Trost’s friends: Isco the alien, and Reque the hybrid.
"As a matter of fact, yes. What are you going to read about?" Teller laughed.
"What else? Navigation and weaponry. You know we’re studying." Trost laughed. "Well, I shouldn’t keep you busy then."
"No you shouldn’t." Indoan remarked, trailing a hand threw his black hair. She kissed him on the lips, then turned, walking off with Teller.
"You’re a lucky man Trost." Reque remarked purposely so that Indoan could hear.
"Oh yeah…" Trost gloated.
The two girls entered the library, it was a huge library. Selves of books reaching twelve feet high, and up to thirty five feet long. The girls went over to a large book on a table, the index, to find where their books might be.
"Weaponry…." Indoan muttered, tracing her finger down the list of books. "AHA!" She smiled, and headed off in the direction of her book.
