Monte Parker, also known as Doc, is a paramedic on the FDNY. Doc has been doing this for many years. Like Sullivan, he has to show the new guy, Carlos, how things work in the FDNY. Doc who was widowed six years ago, and used to date Dr. Morales, a doctor from Angel of Mercy's ER, someone who Carlos has had his eye on. Doc and Dr. Morales eventually got engaged, and then Dr. Morales was offered a new position in Chicago. Doc couldn't leave NYC behind because he had lived there his whole life, so he and Dr. Morales broke up.
Doc and Carlos don't often agree on the same things, this can sometimes lead to trouble, but Doc does the best he can to keep things under control. Doc, tends to get involved in his patient's lives after he helps them, something Carlos doesn't agree with. Doc just wants to help people the best he can.
