HONK!!!

HONK!!! A tale of the Ugly Duckling played in February and March of 2003 at the Circuit Playhouse in Memphis, TN! What a cute show delivering a message of tolerance and love. In an ideal world, these pictures would be fabulous and beautiful and perfect. However, I apparently didn't know how to work my camera and I'm still trying to get a hold of any good pictures from the show. If you are looking at this and have access to better Honk! pictures and want to send them to me, please email them to me. Please. Okay. Now on with the fun!

I thought ya'all might enjoy looking at some of the fabulous actors in Honk! before they actually go on stage and do their thing. Here are Jason Cooper and Katie Deal sitting outside the theatre before the show. Jason played Barnacles and the Turkey. Katie played Maureen and LowButt. Both of them are fabulously talented and I am happy to consider them to be my friends.

Here is Michael Ingersoll who played the Cat studying his script before vocal warmups. Now, most actors should know their lines by the time the play opens, but I'll let it slide this time. Michael looks very happy that I am taking his photograph, doesn't he?

Here is Rebecca DeVries (ME) in the dressing room preparing to be Ida Duck. I put my hair up in a cutesy 1940's-do every day to play this duck. Ida Duck is the sexiest duck this side of the river. Fo' Real.

Here I am AGAIN with two of my ducklings, Megan and Chandler. Aren't they cute? Those are my BABIES!!!! I love my baby ducklings! They hatched out of eggs-- it was really really cute. I wish I had a picture of it, but I don't because my camera sucks and nobody knew how to work it..... grrr....

Here is Jordan Nichols (Actor Extraordinare) who played Ugly, the Ugly Duckling. Poor Ugly is taunted and teased by his cuter little siblings. This causes sadness and dispair for all.

. These are two of the little ducklings in our production of HONK! There were 8 children cast in our show, 4 in each cast. These children are Chandler and Christopher, playing Fluff and Billy.

Michael Ingersoll in costume as the Cat. Oh what a mean Kitty Cat. He wants to eat the Ugly Duckling! How rude!

Stephen Lydic played Drake, the Daddy Duck. Drake is happy to be a duck, but not so happy to see his Ugly son. :(

Angela Groeshen plays Dot, the ditsy flight attendant Goose who helps Ugly find his mother. I took this picture from the wings. Hee hee hee. Get it? WINGS????

Here are Katie Deal and Drew Stark playing Snowy and Bucky, two stupid geese who try to assist Ugly in finding his way home. They make me giggle.

Ida (Rebecca DeVries) teaches Ugly (Jordan Nichols) how to swim! He is a champion swimmer!

Underwater, they meet FISH! (But As Fish.) Fun sparkly and groovy Fish! (Katie Deal, Shani Alexander, and Angela Groeshen.)

Ugly runs away which makes Ida very sad. She sings "Every Tear a Mother Cries", a heartwrenching ballad designed to tear the soul of every mother or potential mother in the audience. I can't even type about it because I'm starting to tear up now.... sniff...

Katie Deal plays Lowbutt. A low butted chicken. Katie makes me laugh. Ha ha ha!

Ugly meets a bullfrog (Drew Stark) who teaches him that somewhere out there someone will love him, warts and all! Here is the cast (except the Cat, Drake, and Ida) doing "Warts and All".

Of course, all Children's Musicals have to have a happy ending, and HONK is no different. Ugly meets Penny (Shani Alexander), a girl swan and falls in love with her. But, guess what? Ugly is a swan too! Hurray!
