This web page is dedicated to my father Charles Edward Johnson of Grand Rapids. My father was born in Dearborn, Michigan 05-14-1918. He was a depression era teen and World War II veteran who served in the US Army based in Alaska. A graduate of Michigan State University when it was then known as Michigan State College, he worked as a newspaper man for many years. Charles Johnson was most widely known as the Farm and Garden Editor at the Grand Rapids Press. He wrote a column called: "Charlie's Garden" and after retirement, became a desktop publisher of "Charlie's Garden Newsletter." Dad passed away in Grand Rapids, Michigan 11-03-1989. Dad taught me the value of money, the meaning of job responsibilities, and what it takes to be a good man. Unfortunately, the lessons didn't always sink-in until sometime after he died. Throughout his North American and European travels for vacations and business trips, he always returned to Michigan. In addition to his career accomplishments, and his love and dedication to my mother Carolyn, I will always remember my father as a man who loved and appreciated the Great Lakes State of Michigan and an avid fan of Michigan State University football.
