Concert Rating: * * * * *
There's one word I think of when I hear the name Econoline
Crush Energy. It rushes through the heavy, poppy guitar chords. It flares in the beats
of the drums. It crawls all over and inside you as their music dances around the room. And most
of all it is embodied by the whiny thickness of the singer's (Trevor Hurst) vocals. The vocals
alone won't be enough to draw you in, however. Buy a cd. Download some of their music.
And listen. Listen twice. Listen three times. Then put it away and pull it out again in a
day or a week. I guarantee you'll get hooked. It's the energy. (If you see them in concert,
you will be an immediate addict).
The lyrics are simple, but driving; the tunes are strong
and original. The beat is sort of 80's music meets techno. Both of EC's major label CD's
are excellent (Affliction, The Devil You Know). If you aren't familiar with them, get ahold of
one as soon as you can. They play in small clubs (which we all use to our advantage).
The shows are relatively cheap, and if you stick around after the show, you will probably
meet the band. And if you have the chance, you should. These are some of the nicest rockstars
you'll ever run into. The shows display the same intense energy (and on some nights, so
does the crowd). Personally, I've seen them only once, and was lucky enough to meet
them. Econoline Crush ranks among those who have received my 5 star concert rating.
