Summary: This story is about how a certain creature helps Link and befriends him.
"Go away! I told you already!"
"Zelda, please!" Link stood below her window, while the rain pattered against his cheeks. "I'm sorry!"
"For what? You didn't do anything with me in these past three days! I was bored out of my mind!" Link's heart sank. Zelda was using that same guilt routine. What had been so wrong, after all; he had taken her on a date just three days ago!
Finally, she slammed the window shut and closed her curtains. Link knew that it was time to leave. He started off on his way home.
His life couldn't be worse right now. Saria was mad at him because he had eaten the cookies she had planned to give to the Deku Sprout; Malon was mad because he had accidentally flooded the stables with milk, thus giving her more work to do. Nabooru was mad because he had accidentally destroyed some of her precious gems. Ruto was mad because he hadn't fed Lord Jabu-Jabu while she was on vacation for a month. So, basically, just about everyone was mad at him.
As he continued, he stepped into a mud puddle, and there was a meow. Hearing this, he crouched and looked around. Then, he saw a very small, orange kitten in a little grove. "Ummm..." Link looked around, trying to see if he could find it's mother. But no, there was no sight of another cat for miles. It looked up at him pleadingly, and then meowed again warmly. It looked so thin...he instantly fell in love with it. He pulled it out and cradled it in his arms. From that day on, he dubbed it 'Buttercup' as it was a female cat. (this is in honor of my kitty cat, by the way!)
While all of his friends scolded him and yelled at him for what he had done, Link enjoyed himself a lot. He took the kitten with him on hunting trips and let it catch birds. It was a fast runner as well, so that made things even better. Also, when he was sleeping, it would curl up beside him as he lay, or it would even stay by his side and do helpful things for him when he was sick, or when he was sad. It was truly an amazing cat, sent to him from the Goddesses of Hyrule.
Eventually, the cat grew so much that it slowed down and became a perfectly healthy animal. To this day, Link still thanks the Goddesses for his precious best friend.
NOTE: Link eventually made up with his other friends, but it took much explaining to do. Link and his best friend were said to be bonded by blood, and, ironically, died on the same day at the same time.
