Being of both sound mind and body,
And have given the best years of his life to his firm,
Regretfully he places his badge on the chief’s desk,
Walks out of the room into an oblivion,
And forever is glamoured.
A congregation forming around the egress stops him,
And bids he reconsider his withdrawal.
They honor and serve him, and do not wish for him to leave.
He beckons them away, treads out of the room,
And offers them no reprieve.
Out in the dismal streets an emptiness envelopes him,
As he reflects back on memories of past accomplishments,
And a slight figment of remorse grasps him.
A sullen tear traces his cheek and a carnival of emotions dramatizes him,
As he steps off those stairs for the final time.
He finds himself at home, alone, and lost without his old friends.
He reminds himself of his forty years at his post and the reminiscences cumulated.
He realizes that his entire life was based around his calling,
And now that his work has ended so does the embellishment of his life.
He slips away, a lonely savior, into an ethereal world.
