Fall Back!
A voice warned,
Of the approaching attack:
The rapture that ripped and scorned;
Quaffing the delicate life as it burned and cracked.
Three running in the group, the rest lost behind,
Fleeing for their lives, shrouded by fate.
Smoke clouds their eyes blind,
Relinquishes their hate,
Kills their kind.
One more falls victim,
To the furnace’s malice.
The rest follow tired in the leader’s megrim,
Running for the salvation of the crystal palace.
The flame rides their backs,
And toys with their fervency.
Their skin blazes and cracks,
And heightens the state of emergency.
Ahead,
No more land,
Into the sky’s ledge.
Jumping out onto God’s hand.
Only the cascading breeze accompanies their eternal plummet,
As the two remaining survivors begin their descent -
A dazzling, inconceivable surfeit,
When all repent.
Downward, dropping, diving.
Snarling, swirling, spinning.
Into an ice blue lake they are falling,
Into the vicious cold they are falling.
Diving from the blaze,
They land in a shallow lake.
Having escaped the forest maze,
They die quickly in the icy wake.
