Microcosmos

Diffusing the music from the crowd
Exacting the two noises
Learning when to say no
And when to accept yes as reality
Stop daydreaming
Because there is only one loneliest
It just wouldn’t be fair to have one more

Simple pleasures enjoyed worldwide
Love, peace, and freedom
Inside my microcosm none exist
Fleeting and futile, like the tide
Washing in one day with resurgence anew
And later casting away, dissipating dream and hope

A certain passage of time is indefinite
Eating forbidden fruit from the damned tree
Rain consists of new drops in this land
Fallen angels pellet my windows
Their hateful screams echoing through my ears

Casual beauty and easy superstition
The two things I’m so easily attracted to
Flower and pollinate my world
Stunting its growth

My head’s below the rest
Women biting at my ankles
Like gullible toy soldiers

Trust is an issue I have learned to ignore
Tonic in a bottle, because nothing here is for sure

Is it any different from the Earth you know?

Or does it just seem that I wear targets
No one else dares to bare?

I return in spiteful apoplexy
Nervous and nefarious
Trying to bust free from my shell

Little hope for those who have their cake and eat it, too
Transitional, improvisational, drifting in a blanket of clouds
Riding the backsides like a miniature circus
With elephants, midgets, and swinging fairy men

Learning through osmosis
Aspiring one day to walk out of this cocoon
Running into a transparent sun
With no warmth
Only fleeting luminescence

This biodome is a one-way mirror
I can only look out onto your world
But you can never see my face
Or what flowers bloom inside
I pound the glass, but it’s sound tight
And you walk on down the yellow brick road

No matter what force I employ, what caliber of strength I muster
The mirror won’t shatter
Riding on the tip of a bird’s wing
Targeting the beacon light atop your beaming head
The people all dance, the people are all damned
Running up and down around the may pole
The beacon light - my luminescent sun - refracting wholeheartedly through this glass prison
