Melia recieved word from a messenger saying her brother was alive and wished to see her. She left immediately to return with the messenger, curious to find out who was sending for her. She had seen her whole family after they died she had no living brothers.
During the journey they where attacked by three theives. The messenger was able to take out one thief before the second one jumped him. He wounded the attacker but was unable to get away and was killed. The Sparing she had done with Shadow Oblivion allowed Melia to defeat the other attacker and had time to run from the wounded thief. Hiding in a thick patch of trees Melia watched until she was sure he was gone. When she felt she had regained enough energy to fight again she slowly made her way back to the body of the dead messenger. Her ears rang as she listened for movement, in the event that the thief was still near. Searching the messenger's pockets she hoped to find something that might tell her which way they where going. In the man's breast pocket on the inside of his jacket she found a small envelope. It had a woman's name on it and was addressed to him. She put the envelope in her satchel and began walking in the direction in which they had been traveling.
After a few days of traveling she comes to a village, small and much different than any she has seen before. All of the tiny one room houses are in a circle and in the middle is a type of platform as if it were a theater. She approached quietly not knowing how the villagers would accept her presence. It was growing lighter by the minute so she knew she must find a place to stow away from the sun. Walking past the first building she tried to see in the window. No one was in sight so she went to the next house. Inside was a beautiful woman with a kind face. The fact that she was growing weary and it was becoming closer to day break made her knock on this womans door. Softly she rapped on the door as to not wake those in the nearby houses. The door opened a crack and the woman looked out at melia. She seemed to memorize Melia's face.
"Hello M'lady, I have been treaveling for days and I am very tired, do you think I could sleep on your floor out of the weather?"
"Well dear I dont make it a habit of letting strangers sleep on my floor. You however seem like a nice girl. May I ask your name?"
"Oh yes mam, my name is Melia. I am terribly sorry to bother you at such an hour."
The womans eyes droped to the floor and she quickly opened the door. "Oh dear, please do come in quickly, I am so sorry for my rudeness. Please, please come in and rest."
Melia became very curious of this womans behavior as she entered the house. "Why do you appologize to me?"
The woman looked confused and just stared at her for a moment. "You are the Kesi girl aren't you?"
Melia shifted uneasily and looked at the woman in amazement. She began to worry that she had walked into a trap. Perhaps someone knew she was the only living Kesi and wanted to be rid of her. Melia looked into the womans eyes, "How did you know that? I only told you my first name."
The woman still looked puzzled but answered in spite of her confussion. "Didn't Daniel tell you? Where is he anyway?"
Melia looked at her, still confused but she realized she had found the place she was looking for. She remembered the name on the envelope, Elle Santref. "M'lady, Santref?"
The woman perked up curiously, "Yes dear, what is it?"
"I'm sorry to tell you this, we were attacked by thieves on the way here. Daniel fought as a warrior but was not able to fend off two at one time. He was killed and they took all of his possesions, except this." Melia pulled the letter from her pocket and handed it to the woman. Tears were building up in the woman's eyes as Melia held out the letter. Elle took the letter and the tears began to cascade down her pale white cheeks. Clutching the letter to her chest Elle began to sob, "I begged him not to go, I told him something bad was going to happen to him. What will I do without him. My love, my life, my very breath... he's gone."
Melia lowered her eyes to the floor in saddness and guilt, feeling it was her fault the man had died. Perhaps she shouldn't have come at all.
Elle wiped her tears and looked at Melia. Then as if she had read Melia's thoughts she answered, "No, you must not blame yourself. This is the way they planed it to be, though i know not why. As for what you where to be told, you where to be brought here to reunite with Sir Gavin. He heard that you were in Josan and wanted to see you. He has much to discuss with you. You are just as he said you would be. Your beautiful, strong and innocent. Oh dear, may the world be ready for the two of you. But enough talk, you must rest." Elle showed her to bed and closed the shudders tight then lay on the floor to sleep till dusk.
Melia lay trying to figure out how a human could possibly have read her thoughts. Before her thoughts were complete she drifted off to sleep.
As the last beam of sunlight faded slowly sliping farther down the front of the small house Melia began to stir. Elle was allready awake and fussing about the room, cleaning. Melia sat up and raked her fingers through her tangled locks freeing the knots and restoring the shine and bounce to her loose curls. Elle smiled and poured a glass of red wine, and held it out to Melia. "Here, you have to be famished, drink and regain your strength."
Looking into the glass Melia realized it was blood. The smell of fresh human blood filled her nostrils. The sweet salty smell of the river of life that flows within the beings on which she feeds. Hungrily she drank the contents of the glass, draining every drop and wiped her mouth with her hand. Allready the warmth was running through her body. Elle reached for the empty glass and Melia noticed that her wrist was bandaged. She grabed Elle's arm and pulled her near.
"How did this happen? What have you done?"
Elle looked shocked and frightened at Melia's actions. She tried to pull away from Melia, but her grip was too strong for Elle to free herself. Melia saw the fear in Elle's eyes and she could tell by the look on her face that her raised voice was hurting the woman's ears.
"Elle did you do that for me? Answer me!" Elle was pulling away and trying to cover her ears as she answered.
"Yes, you had to feed, you where weak. It is my life's destiny as the prey."
Melia droped the woman's arm back to her side. "Don't ever do that for me again. I can feed on my own, I don't need a blood doll. Where is this person who says he's my brother?"
Elle held her arm looking at the light bruise where Melia had held her. "I was trying to help, I'm sorry I offended you. Sir Gavin will be in the circle soon. Shall we go?"
Melia nodded and followed Elle, they left the house and walked out to the center of the village where people were starting to gather. Melia noticed all of them watching her as she was led to the platform. They stood in front of the platform with the rest of the villagers. The crowd grew silent and she looked up to see a figure approaching them wearing a dark hooded cloak. He steped onto the platform and sat in the small, fairly plain looking throne. He lowered his head and pulled back the hood to reveal his face. Melia stared in awe as she saw her brothers face. She was frozen, in shock at seeing her youngest brother alive. The very one whom she held in her arms as he spoke his dying words.
He saw her in front of the crowd and smiled. Yes it was his smile, his face, but how? He raised his head a bit and spoke.
"Melia, my dear sister it's so good to see you."
Hearing his voice made it real and Melia began to cry. He stood and left the platform to go to her. When he reached her he threw his arms around her and huged her tightly. Feeling his arms around her she began to sob.
"Mel calm down, its ok. I'm here and we are both alive. It's time to be happy."
She looked at him studying his face. "Gavin, how did you, I mean, you died." I was there, I held you as you took your last breath. You told me you were dying. How, I mean... this is impossible."
"Melia there is so much to talk about but not now. First tell me about you. How are you? I hear you have been living in a place called Tyran. Tell me all about it." He pulled away and guided her to come sit with him. She sat next to him on the edge of the platform.
"Melia this is my village. My new kingdom of sorts. These are my people. Everyone, This is my sister Melia. She is the one you have heard so much about. I will need someone to bring her dinner..." Melia interupted, "No need for that, I can find my own Gavin I'm not a child anymore."
He looked at her a bit upset, almost hurt. "Mel, I have missed you. I thought I would never see you again. Please let me fawn over you a bit."
Melia smiled a bit and shruged. "Ok but I must insist on finding my own prey."
Gavin smiled and agreed to her wishes. "Now Mel, tell me what have you done since that horrible day? I want to know everything."
She smiled knowing his curious nature. They were so much alike in that respect. She knew he was bursting to know everything, for she couldn't wait to know all the answers to her own questions. "I traveled for weeks looking for somewhere to fit in. Where I could start a new life and not have to fear for it. I came upon this place, a tavern on a lake. The people call it Vamp Pub. I was tired and needed a place to sit so I went in. I was afraid at first not knowing how they would react. As I walked in I saw creatures that I had never seen before. Beautiful as well as the strange and almost frightening. Dragons, fairies, demons, vampires, elves, unicorns, angels, and even humans, all mingling together as if they knew not a difference. I met creatures and beings beyond imagination in teh first few days and that is why I stayed in Tyran. Beings of all sorts reside together in families and clans. I was taken into a familly called Gothic Dreams. The king, Neo, offered to help me learn new trades. I met Oblivion Shadow and he taught me to fight. For as friendly as most were, there are dangers too. He also gave me this sword which I carry always. I also met Dark Ruff. We were very good friends and he gave me this dagger." She pulls the dagger from her boot. Proudly she shows it off. "I became aa knight for the Gothic Dreams clan. I enjoyed it a lot and the members became my family. In the pub as I said there are all types. I met this man whos name is Freak. He belonged to a family called Noctornal Klownz. He is a lot of funa nd a wonderful man. He does have his evil and almost demented side too, which is what made me fall head over heals in love with him. He fell fore me pretty quick as well because the second night we met he asked me to be his girlfriend. Nearly a week later he proposed and we have been married happily for quite some time. We have an adopted son Zander. Hes 11 years old and crazier than his father. I left the Gothic Dreams to Join my husband and son in NK and now here I am." She paused a moment then asked, "So tell me, what happend?"
Gavin stood silent absorbing all the information for a few minutes then spoke again. "You are married? An eleven year old son? For the love of Midnight! you have been busy."
Melia giggled "You sound like father, he would always say "For the love of midnight Melia, you will be the death of me." I miss them so much."
"As do I little sister, but I'm so glad to have you here. As I said this is the begining of my new kingdom." Gavin mad a sweeping motion with his arm to direct her view around the village. "What I really want to know is how you survived Gavin? I know I saw you die." Melia's eyes locked on his and demanded an answer.
Gavin smiled, "Yes we are so much alike. Both so impatient and stuborn. I lay there on the ground seemingly dead. I felt nothing and heard nothing. I saw only darkness and then it came to me. The thought in my mind and the engergy to live if I chose to. At first I thought I had nothing to live for. I wanted to die and be done with it all. But the voice said "What about your mother? Your whole family, shamed and dishonored. Would you let that be?" Then revenge and anger took over and powered me to have the will to live. I dont know who it was that day, but someone had chosen to help me live, if I had the strength to fight it. I still to this day don't know why he chose to help me, and I havent seen him since. But I also ran, as I traveled I met people who interested me so I brought them with me. And now here we are, in our new home, my new kingdom."
There was a long silence as they both stared at eachother. Finally Melia broke the silence. "Gavin I'm so happy you are ok, but I'm worried about this man who helped you. Why would he help you and leave? Did he ask anything of you? Do you owe him a debt that is left unpaid?"
Gavin grabed his sisters hand and held it gently. "Mel, I'm alive, I don't care what he may want. I will repay him any way possible for his gift. I am alive!"
Melia smiled seeing his happy expression. She hugged him and then tackled him to the ground giggling.
"I have been trained as a knight you know."
Gavin was laughing heartily and flip kicked her over his head and pinned her. "Yes and you still fight like a girl, and I can still beat you little miss knight."
Melia was laughing but still managed to roll him off to the left and sit on his chest. "If you weren't my brother I would rip out your throat." Melia was laughing so hard she didnt see his retalliation coming. He pushed her off his chest, jumped to his feet grabed her and tossed her over his shoulder. He stood there holding her and laughing. "You were saying? You forget you are still my little sister."
Melia gave in still laughing "Ok you win, this time. Now put me down!"
Gavin set her down and realized the rest were still watching. "Everyone, we shall take the day and rest. No work today it is a day to celebrate and feast."
Melia stayed with her brother for a month and three days before returning home to her husband. The only problem was that her husband and son Zander where missing. She searched the land and asked everyone who had known him but no one knew where they had gone.
