ROME

I stoped in Rome for the last 3 days of my vacation in Europe. We had a crazy situation when we first got to Rome. We had lost are suitcase that contained all our passports and plane tickets! So needless to say the first 3 hours in Rome were frantic. No one in Rome speaks English, not even the police, so you can imagine how hard it was to tell anyone what had happened. It ended up that we had left the suitcase on the train, and when we went back it was still there. Once that was out of the way, the rest of my time in Rome was amazing.

THE VATICAN
The Vatican was the most amazing thing I have ever seen. Once inside it is breath taking. The amount of marble, and gold used on the cellings and statures throughout is unreal. I was lucky enough to see the Pope, and got within 10 feet of him. The overall experience of the Vatican is one I will never forget.

THE PANTHEON
Unfortunately I took my Humanities Class after I went to Rome. So while I was there I didn't know the importance of this building. I had never heard of the Pantheon. It was built by the Emperor Hadrian as a Temple for the Gods back in 1 A.D. and now serves as a church in Rome.

THE COLOSSEUM
The Colosseum was built in 1 A.D by the Emperor Vespasian. It was a place for all the Romans to gather and watch Gladators fight (and die) against animals. Today you can take tours of the Colosseum by day, buy night it is gaurding by police with machine guns! It is one of the most visited sites in Rome.
