Chilean Armor

After a long time depending on old Sherman tanks, finaly the chilean army got modern MBT, like the german Leopard 1 and the AMX-30B. Most of the old M24 and M50 tanks fitted with the IMI HVMS60 high speed cannon and the modernized 105mm upgunned M-51 Ishermans were retired and stored in operational conditions because of their potential fighting power.
Other items in the operational inventory include revamped M-41 light tanks, Scorpions and IFV based on upgunned M113 and the locally produced Mowag Piraña wheeled platform.

MBT
Leopard 1v-Ch (282 units)

Like most former Dutch Leopards, it was upgraded with the Honeywell/Zeiss EMES-12A3 AFSL-2 computarized fire control system with laser rangefinder coupled with an improved Honeywell 2 axis gun stabilization system and optionally also to the TEM-2A stereoscopic/coincidence rangefinder. This feature enables the tank for a very accurate fire on the move capability of Nato HE, M456 HEAT & DM33 or M735 APDSFS ammunition.
Before entering into chilean service, it was fitted with the Telefunken PZB200 passive low light level television (LLLTV) image intensification night vision system for aiming and observation and improved SEM90 radios.
