Oakland's Carlos Pena is AL April Rookie of the Month
Oakland A's first baseman Carlos Pena was voted the American League Rookie of the Month for hitting .264 in 26 April games. This is the second year of the Rookie of the Month voting and the first win by an Oakland A's player.

Pena was 23-for-87 with four doubles, seven home runs and seven walks. He slugged .552 and had an on-base percentage of .323. Pena drove in 16 runs, scored 10 and walked seven times last month.

Dustan Mohr of Minnesota was second in the voting with Eric Hinske of Toronto a close third. Mohr hit .366 with six RBI in 21 games. Hinske played in 23 games for the Blue Jays and hit .318 with 12 RBI.

Also named on ballots for their April performances were a trio of Baltimore Orioles rookies: pitchers Jorge Julio (1-0, 4 SV, 1.32 ERA) and Rodrigo Lopez (3-0, 2.42 ERA, 14 SO) and catcher Geronimo Gil (.286, 15 RBI).

American League Rookies of the Month receive specially designed and engraved trophies from the T.R. Miller Company.
