GRANDMA LOU'S PUNCH
1 small can frozen orange juice
2 quarts ginger ale (Vernors)
1 quart orange sherbert
~ OR ~
1 small can frozen limeade
2 quarts 7-Up
1 quart lime sherbert
Just mix together and let set - viola! Wonderful punch!
BIRDIE'S KUHLUA
3 cups sugar
2 oz Folger's instant coffee (2/3 cups)
2 cups boiling water
1 quart Vodka
1 vanilla bean (chopped) OR 4 tsp pure vanilla
Mix sugar and coffee/dry. Add boiling water and stir until dissolved. Add Vodka and vanilla if using extract and pour into bottle. If using vanilla bean, cut up and throw in bottle. It's a lot better to use vanilla bean and age 30 days. Use vanilla extract if you have to use right away.
This is my sister's recipe and boy is it good! You have to try it! But, just a note of caution: I wouldn't advise testing this out before dinner is ready - dinner may be slightly delayed. LOL
DIET MILK SHAKE
Oh the things we find in our box of recipes! And the memories! My dear mother found this for me when I was pregnant with my 1st child (38 yrs ago). I was trying to keep from gaining so much weight and she found this and gave it to me. Well, I took it to my doctors and he gave his ok to use for a week or two. Now I don't remember if I actually did it but here it is - maybe it will help someone - sorta like a Slim Fast type of drink. Heck, maybe I will give it a try myself now ...
1/2 cup of chocolate-flavored malted drink mix (vitamin-mineral-fortified type)
2 1/4 cups instant non-fat dry milk*
*(If the package suggests 3 tbsp to 1 cup water, use only 1 1/4 cups of non-fat dry milk in this recipe)
4 tsp salad oil (Wesson or Mazola)
1 qt ice cold water (the coldness is essential to the flavor)
With a spoon, thoroughly combine the vitamin-mineral-fortified malted drink mix, the non-fat dry milk and the salad oil. Pour the ice cold water in a mixing bowl, sprinkle dry mixture on surface of water. Stir to blend or whip with electric or rotary beater or blender until frothy. If the mixture is polka-dotted with brown flecks, it doesn't matter. Keep chilled. Mixture may separate. Always shake before using. Makes 1 quart.
Daily amount: 1 qt liquid diet plus 1 small orange sliced or in sections equals about 1,000 calories (important for Vitamin C)
Suggestions:
1. This diet is quite portable. Put 3/4 cup dry mixture in waxed paper, clear plastic or foil. Put into a regular envelope and carry in pocket or purse. All that is needed is a cup of ice water from a fountain or your hostess' refrigerator to make up a "meal."
2. To provide a solid side to the diet, use iced celery stalks (preferably without salt) including the leaves, cucumber or green pepper slices, radishes, young green onions, thin slices of carrot and crisp lettuce leaves. These may be taken with a dash of lemon juice or venegar or diet dressing (mineral oil and vinegar).
3. Take this diet exclusively for 2 weeks (average wt loss 2 1/2 /wk), then taper off by substituting it for only one or two meals a day.
4. Between "meals" as well as with "meals", you may have as much black coffee as desired, plain tea or bouillion.
RUSSIAN TEA
(A wonderful hot drink that will warm your "tummy" and make you feel so good)
9 oz jar of Tang breakfast drink (1 cup)
4 oz jar of lemon flavored iced tea mix (1/2 cup)
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
2 teaspoons ground cloves
1 teaspoon ground ginger
Mix drink mix, tea mix, sugar and spices. Store in tightly covered container at room temperature. Store no longer than 6 months. (believe me, this won't last that long)!
To serve: For each serving, mix 3 teaspoons with boiling water in mug until mix is dissolved. ENJOY!
CJ'S ORIGINAL RUSSIAN TEA
This is my original Russian Tea mix ... I had lost it and made up the recipe above as best I could from memory - that's the one I called RUSSIAN TEA - so now that I have found my original recipe I thought I would post that too and you can decide which one you like better.
1 1/3 cups TANG orange drink mix
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup instant tea (or lemon-flavored instant tea)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cloves
Combine ingredients and store in tightly covered jar. Makes approximately 24 servings.
FOR 1 SERVING: Place 1 well-rounded teaspoon of mix in a cup, fill with boiling water and stir until dissolved.
FOR 1 QUART: Dissolve 1/2 cup mix in 1 quart of boiling water in a teapot or heat-resistant pitcher.
HOT CHOCOLATE MIX
10 quarts powdered milk
1 lb powdered sugar
1 lb jar Cremora creamer
1 lb can Nestles quick
Mix all ingredients together. Use 1/4 cup for each 1 cup serving. Put in cup and pour in hot water.
INSTANT CAPPUCCINO MIX
1 cup powdered chocolate milk mix
3/4 cup non dairy creamer
1/2 cup instant coffee granules
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
In medium bowl, combine all ingredients blending well. Store in airtight container. To serve, place 1 heaping tablespoon mix in a cup or mug. Add 1 cup boiling water and stir. Makes 2 cups.
SUGGESTIONS: To give as a gift, put in decorative jar, place in basket with a couple mugs.
