To make a heart-shaped cake without a special pan, make one round layer and one square layer. When both are cool, place the square layer on the serving plate so it looks like a diamond. Then cut the round layer into two equal halves, and place the two halves on the top two sides of the square layer, forming a heart!
Use vegetable oil to remove sticky labels off thrift-store finds or even bottles. Just dip a cotton ball in the oil, and then wipe the tag. The oil will dissolve the glue right away.
To kill household odors quickly, place a little white vinegar in a small container and hide it on top of a shelf or behind a photo. This works great when you're cooking fish!
To make an easy mocha-flavored cake, substitute prepared coffee for water in a packaged chocolate cake mix.
If you are out of lemon juice you can substitute 1/2 tsp of vinegar for every 1 tsp of juice called for in your recipe.
If you place your cheese in the freezer for a few minutes before slicing it will keep it from clinging to knives and graters.
If you get an oil spot on your washable clothing just pour a tiny amount of shampoo made for oily hair onto the stain and toss in the wash - it acts just like stain remover!
Throw your rubber or vinyl bath mat in the wash along with several bath towels. The towels will scrub the mat clean for you!
