House Votes to Limit Passengers in Vehicles by Teenagers
Now Playing: Ian Parrott
This was an article in the Muskegon Chronicle on Thursday, December 8. It told of how the house has voted 71-31 in favor of limiting 1st year drivers to have only 1 other person younger than 18 in his or her car during the time of driving. Young drivers represent only 7% of the driving population, yet they account for 14.2% of fatal crashes. Limiting the number of passengers in the car would help curb the number of distractions that teenagers face when driving.

Question: Do you think that limiting the number of passengers in a 1st year driver's car to 1 under the age of 18 is good?

No, not really because the people over 18 years old can be just as bad if not worse drivers than those who are teens

i do think that limiting the amout of people in a car would be helpful. i would not mind if i became a law. it is true that younger drivers can be more ditracted than more experenced drivers. it would just be safer if that law was pasted.

I am really unsure about this because i know that alot of the accidents are caused by 1st year drivers, but the thing is i know alot of people bring other kids to school and so forth. So it would ruin them being able to take other kids to school. I dont necessary believe that its just the kids in the car distracting them, i also know that the teens usually experiment with alcohol and drugs and then drive. So im not sure what to think on this issue yet.

I truthfully don't know what to say about this issue. It might be a good idea, it might not. If we limit the number of drivers to 18-year-olds, not only are we making teenagers wait longer for the chance to drive, but we are also doing alcoholic teenagers a favor by keeping them out of the driver's seat long enough for their parents to discover their drinking problem.

Here is my suggestion: try not to think so much about teenage drivers and think more about drivers of all ages. Many drivers of all ages get drunk and have accidents. Old people with senile dementia get into accidents as well. We should try to think more about those people.

People should remember that not all car crashes are caused by teen drivers. There's also drunk drivers and elderly drivers suffering from Alzheimer's disease. It is ageism what the House is considering, trying to limit the driving age. We have all these car crashes, and yet teens are the only ones getting blamed for them. Why is everyone so blind?
