(The Mammogram)

Just had to write and tell you
about this mammogram you see
I've never had a thing like this
get such a grip on me

For years and years they told me
Be careful with your breasts
Don't ever squeeze or bruise them
and give them monthly tests

Now after all these years of careful care
the doctor found a lump
and ordered up a mammogram
to look inside that clump

'Stand up very close' she said
And she got me right in line
'And tell me when I hurt you,
Ah yes, there, that's just fine'

She put her foot to the pedal
I couldn't believe my eyes
A heavy plate was pressing down
My goodness! She's put me in a vise!

My skin was stretched and stretched
from way up to my chin
and my poor boob by now,
was Swedish pancake thin

'Take a deep breath' she then said
Who does she think she is kidding?
My chest is smashed in her machine
and woozy I am getting

'There that's good' I heard her say
As the room was slowly swaying
'Now let's get the other one'
'Lord have mercy' I was praying

It squeezed me from the up and down
and then from side to side
I'll bet she's never had this done
to her tender little hide

If I had no problem when I came in
I sure did have one now
If there had been a cyst in there
It would have popped...KerPow!

I'll write again after recovery.

Love, Mother
