Another Mother Letter
(Mr. Jones and Me)

Hello son, It's Mother
Just wanted to let you know
I  volunteered at the nursing home
Other things I must let go

My schedule is all in order
I won't have much time for you
I know you'll understand
'Cause it's the right thing to do

  'Come in tomorrow morning.
around about 8',  they said
The first thing that you must do,
is get Mr. Jones out of bed'

'Get him up and dress him
and set him in a chair
Hands and face must be washed
and please do comb his hair'

  'When breakfast is served
if he should as for help
Give him a smile and tell him,
to try it by himself'

I guess he did what he usually does
Ham and eggs flying thru the air
He waved his hands and yelled at me
And put breakfast everywhere

The day was only half way done
and I was at a loss
Gonna have to make some rules
and show him who's the boss

  I arrived next morning
The ritual was on again
When it came feeding time
He insisted that I feed him

'Fruit and fiber,' is what he said
I said, 'breakfast your way then'
I spooned it all for him
and watched him slurp it in

I turned my back and he ran
and somehow disappeared
Then I heard somebody yelling out
'P U, get Jonesy outta here'

The search was on for Jonesy now
Seems he went out the door
I finally caught up to him
and said, 'whatcha running for?'

'There ain't no way you can hide,
by the trail left behind
You're fertilizing everything,
and polluting at the same time'

I brought him back to his room
And said,' You need a shower"
Though he protested for some time
I scrubbed him for an hour

I said, 'It's time to rest now'
as I fluffed his bed for him
I said, 'Before the end of this day,
I betcha we'll be friends'

'You'll be glad I feed you.
you'll be glad I keep you clean.
And I ain't gonna chase you around,
So you'd better stop being so mean'

I turned to see his response
He didn't hear a word I said
He was sleeping like a baby
in his clean soft bed

  Now I guess I'll rest a bit
Before he starts us again
But I'll be back tomorrow
Just to take care of him.
