~OF BOYS AND DOGS~
The coat of a dog makes a wonderful sponge
For the tears of an unhappy boy.
The neck of a dog is a fine thing to hug
When a small throat is choking with joy.
Courage is greater when faithfully backed
By a tail-wagging amateur sleuth.
Dogs seem to be indispensable rungs
Up the ladder to manhood from youth.
