Madeline

Robbie, my adopted son, first met Madeline when he and Dante went ‘cruisin’ for chicks’ one night. Madeline and her friend Tricia were at the drive-in when Dante and Robbie pulled up, and paired off with the boys; Dante and Tricia went one way, Madeline the other. Although Dante and Tricia never really hit it off, Robbie and Madeline did, and are still together today.

Madeline is not a clone; rather, she is a “townie”—a non-clone, non-lister resident of Trotondown. Such denizens typically do not appear near the Library; being a home in addition to a book depository, free and open exploration of the Library by non-residents is not encouraged. However, townies have the run of Trotondown. Madeline works in the bookshop owned by my once-erstwhile clones GC and Krishna (George Carlin and Harrison clones, respectively), and has a small apartment nearby. When she and Robbie first met their relationship was on a casual level—Robbie was, after all, only fourteen, and Madeline was eighteen. When Robbie’s aging was tampered with and he made the leap from fourteen to sixteen, Madeline also made the leap from casual friend to girlfriend—showing her wild side during a casual conversation with Robbie, when she looped her arms around his neck and said “So, wanna have sex?” (And yes, for those of you who ARE that inquisitive—they did.)

Madeline is generally very quiet and sweet, with a powerful maternal side that makes her an almost ideal companion/caregiver for young children. Working in a bookstore means she’s exposed to the great works of literature; she reads constantly. In addition to her more wild side—one that includes an almost insatiable appetite for sex—she also possesses the improbable skills with various kinds of firearms. In short, Madeline could be a sharpshooter for the FBI if she chose. Raised in the back country with a self-described “redneck” family, Madeline can handle rifles and handguns with ease, possessing an uncanny aim and the ability to shoot either to wound, maim, or kill. When immersed in tense situations (which, being around Robbie and Dante, has happened a few times) Madeline becomes very calm; nerves which rear up later, causing her to be sick after the fact, disappear in the heat of the moment, making her a very deadly enemy to have. However, unlike Mich, Madeline has very little in the way of hand-to-hand fighting skills—it’s getting by her aim that’s the hard part.
