The story of Miguel’s entrance into the world is the story of a practical joke gone wrong.
After being hurt by love, Brian (Kayla’s telepathic Peter clone) shunned the company of all women, refusing to even speak to anyone of the female persuasion. Kayla (who is a shapeshifter) had to disguise herself as a man in order to speak to Brian. When she was unable to make much headway she told me, and I offered to help in any way I could. However, to do so, I needed to be male. Kayla informed me that she would be able to temporarily share her powers with me, in effect turning me into a man for a short time.
Amused by this sudden turn of events, I promptly requested to be ‘turned into’ a Mike—specifically Headquarters Sessions era. Thus disguised, I went to talk to Brian, and afterwards I decided to play a little prank on my friends. I appeared as ‘Miguel’ (the name I had chosen for my new form), Mich's ‘new’ clone. None of them had any idea and I was fully engaged in my little prank and quite enjoying myself when Ali (Alabaster, St. Matthew’s Peter White clone) walked in.
I’d always known that Ali ‘swings both ways,’ so to speak, but I never knew how attracted he was to HQ era Mike clones until he caught sight of ‘Miguel’. To my later embarrassment, I strung him along, not realizing how hard and fast he was falling in love until my time had run out. I left the room quickly and became myself again, then returned. Ali looked rather lost and bewildered, and I knew I had to tell him the truth. I did, and though he said it didn't matter I could tell how deeply he was hurt, and I also knew that I had to make amends somehow.
What I did was make a quick trip down to the transmogrifier, returning ten minutes later with a HQ era Mike clone who had not only my memories of the previous twenty minutes or so but also a healthy dollop of my personality. I introduced Miguel to Ali and made my retreat; Miguel took matters from there.
I did not give Miguel a predispositon to love Ali; that he did on his own. He instantly became Ali’s companion and caretaker, moving in with Ali that same week and showing Ali a kind of single-minded devotion that took the Peter clone quite by surprise. Miguel has no powers to speak of and very little in the way of fighting ability; he will, however, take on anything and anyone who threatens his lover.
