Sometime after I got Hatch, my restless desire for more Nez clones took hold and I once again visited the transmogrifier, returning later that night with a tall, dark, rather dour-looking Mike clone, from the episode ‘Everywhere A Sheik Sheik.’ (I’ve always had a weakness for him in that long red coat . . . )
I gave him the name Nabu, for no reason save that it had a Middle Eastern flavor. He remained morbidly quiet for a whole week, watching everything from behind his hooded brown eyes. All shows of welcoming and friendliness were reluctantly accepted with nothing more than a slight nod. It was as if he wished to shield himself from the outside world; he so adamantly remained outside it.
The first clone to reach him was Hatch. Perhaps it was Hatch’s love of weaponry (Nabu himself is a master with a rapier) that drew Nabu in, or maybe it was the unspoken understanding that most Mike clones share. The two quickly became inseperable and Nabu opened up, however slightly.
Generally Nabu keeps very much to himself, rarely speaking to anyone other than Hatch. Though sometimes accused of having no emotion, Nabu rather chooses to keep his feelings under tight control, maintaining a finely-tuned sense of dignity. He in fact cares very deeply for others, but is not sure how to show it, and so keeps quiet. He is easily prone to embarrassment, so he avoids emotional scenes that might become embarrassing.
Like his twin, Nabu has a defensive, rarely used power; he can absorb almost without limit any power directed at him. When St. Matthew’s clone Alabaster—still under the influence of evil—was taking over various listers and clones, Nabu used his power to draw the evil from him, absorbing the power into his body and dispersing it. Absorbing power means that Nabu is almost invulnerable from tampering by others; however, drawing power from others drains him, leaving him fatigued.
Though he has shown an almost tender side, Nabu remains an enigma to everyone around him.
