Noah ‘Petey’ Tork

Noah Tork came into our lives on April 17th, 2002. Or rather, he came into Hatch’s life.

After the encounters with the alternate Library universe (where the counterparts of many of the good people in this dimension are evil), Hatch was feeling out-of-place and depressed, not knowing where he fit into Library life any more. He was considering leaving when one night he accepted Dante’s offer to come see a performance of Dante’s band. On the way to the club, walking through the wind and rain, Hatch spotted something out of place.

A small child in the middle of the street.

He rescued the boy from a near-collision with a car, and brought him home. The boy—whom Hatch called ‘Petey’because the boy could not provide a name—immediately latched onto Hatch, refused to stray far from his side. It was quickly discovered that Petey had been abandoned by a “townie” from Trotondown who’d snuck into the Library to make an illegal clone. Petey had been her first attempt, and had been discarded in favor of an infant. He followed the woman all the way to TD before she finally told him to “get lost.” He wandered around all by himself for almost two full days before Hatch found him.

Because he had no legal guardian, and was already very fond of Hatch—already calling him ‘papa’—I gave Hatch permission to adopt Petey as his own, and become his father. Hatch finally decided upon the name Noah for his new son; rather appropriate, I thought, considering the circumstances when Hatch found him.

Noah is four years old, going on five. Like most children he is talkative and inquisitive, always into anything he can get his hands on. For some reason whenever Hatch tries to give him a bath he ends up streaking through the house—or the Library—soaking wet and naked, causing Hatch to give chase. He has formed a rather close bond with LauraGrace, En’s daughter—when not at home she can usually be found with him. Noah loves going outside to play with the various members of my clone family, but as always, where ‘Papa Hatch’ goes, Noah isn’t far behind.
