If you’re here I’m assuming that you have no idea what I mean by clones or listers or even fics.
I’m here to enlighten you. <g>
There is a Monkees fanfic—fic being the general term for stories or fiction—writing workshop run through yahoogroups called Long_Title (which is, incidentally, the name of a Monkees song). The people who are on the list are called listers. (Get it?) Listers who do not actively participate—by choice or circumstance—are called lurkers. Now, in addition to being a writing workshop list, in its three years of existence Long Title has also evolved into its own little world.
I don’t know when the idea of a virtual Library came about—it was before I joined the list in September of 2000, that much I know.
Sometime after I joined the descriptions of the Library became a little less vague. Listers began establishing residences in the Library—which is more of a home, really—and the Library became much more concrete in its surroundings.
Its exact whereabouts are unknown, even to us. It is a massive brick building located in the center of an expansive forest that keeps it comfortably isolated from the outside world.
The Library is spacious and homey, with rich wooden stacks on the first floor, interspersed with couches, chairs, and desks where listers ply their trade. The massive fireplace is located in the center, with the main staircase—a tornado staircase, of course—off to the right. The second floor houses the kitchen, offices, and the Frodis Room, as well as numerous other rooms used at hangouts. The third floor is the ‘dormitory’ level, where most of the listers live with their clones.
The Library has a pool and riding stables out back, and the small village of Trotondown is nearby, providing diversion for the Library denizens.
The exact origin of the Long Title clones is uncertain as well, but the concept is very simple: we are able to make virtual clones of literally any person and create their personalities however we so choose. Some clones—like mine—are very three-dimensional and straightforward, some, like those who come from the clone vending machine, are downright bizarre.
