Notes for HENRY DICKERSON:

• Henry Dickerson was a tanner, like his son and grandsons.
• There is not much proof regarding Henry as Philemon's Father.
• The Dickerson family is thought to be of Norwegian origin:
  From Ivar in 725 to Walter de Caen alias Gautier of Caen (anglicized as Walter de Kenson) who accompanied William the Conqueror in the invasion of England.

  The List of Gautier knights accompanying William the Conqueror on his invasion of England (Battle of Hastings) in 1066 included Gautier de Caen.

  The list taken from the plaque in the church at Dives-sur-Mer, Normandy, France, where William the Conqueror and his knights said mass before setting sail to invade England in 1066.

  Battell Abbey Rolls, including Wace, Dukes, Counts, Barons and Seigneurs who attended William at Hastings.

  The commanders. They were the elite who had provided ships, horses, men and supplies for the venture. They were granted the Lordships.

  The list does not include the estimated 12,000, Standard bearers, Men at Arms, Yeomen, Freemen and other ranks, although some of these were granted smaller parcels of England, some even as small as 1/8th of a knight's fee.

• He was an indentured servant to Benjamin Cooper, who some think might have been his uncle.
• Philemon was made a freeman on June 2, 1641.

    Property estimated value = 250 English pounds, 10 shillings.

    1680 - Peter and his brother Thomas held common lands.

    1683 - Peter has land valued at 121 English pounds.

    1707 (August 19th) - Thomas Reeve gave Peter Dickerson one home lot on Town Street. This land adjoined Peter's home lot on the South & Jonathan Mapes' land on the North.

    No record of Peter Dickerson's will has been found.
