• Grzegorz Zbigniew Sypniewski was a Lieutenant Militiaman. He was the son of Wiktor Sypniewski and Henrietta (nee Aleksandrowicz). Grzegorz was born in LKwow. He was a legionary in the 1st Regimanet of Artillery in 1920. He was in combat in the 58th Infantry Regiment. Marian was married. He is buried in Katyn Cemetary in Russia, where officers of the Polish army were executed during World War II.

• HENRY SYPNIEWSKI US Track and Field top runner. Henry Sypniewski raced in October's Thundering Herd 12K race. Mr. Sypniewski was 81 years old and ran a 7.44-mile race in a time that was a minute faster than the existing record for those in the 80-84 age group. Henry lives in Cheektowaga, New York. Since then he has continued to run and his last recorded race statistics are recorded on THIS PAGE:

  At age 85 years 69 days with a time of 5:11:04, Henry Sypniewski (USA) finished third in the Men's 70 and older category. Henry was born July 7, 1918. The marathon was on September 14, 2003, and took place in Erie, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.

  Henry is a retired machinist. Before he won the national award he was rehabilitating a torn rotor cuff he suffered by falling on the ice at Chestnut Ridge Park. Henry also ran track for East High School in 1935. He credits his good health to living a clean life, with no drinking or smoking. Unfortunately The Buffalo News no longer archives Henry's story.
