Michigan Dickersons

Wayne and Washtenaw Counties:
- C. Dickerson of Bridgewater Township, Washtenaw County, Section 8 settled in 1838 from New York State. Post office = Manchester. He was a farmer.
- Joseph Dickerson of Salem Township was in Section 22 and had 100 acres of land. Moved there in 1862 from New York State. P.O. = Clinton. He was a farmer.
- A. Dickerson of Manchester Township, Section 11, was born in New York State. He listed in 1839 as having a business concern in "Foundry, Agriculture, and Manuafacturing." He was a blacksmith.
- First settlers of Salem Township, Michigan were John Dickenson and Joseph Dickenson and Mrs. Amy Dickenson. They all were natives of New York State. They left Seneca County in 1825 and located lands on sections 13 and 14 in Salem in 1825.
In 1827, Dickenson built the first log cabin and in 1830 constructed the first frame barn in Salem Township.
John Dickenson was listed as a Supervisor in Salem in 1838 and 1849. Mrs. Peters, wife of Jesse Peters (came to Salem in 1825) and was the sister of Amy Dickenson. Her first child was born in Salem Township. He was Isaac Peters and was born in 1827.
- John Dickerson had a farm in Salem in section 22. He was born in Morris County, New Jersey on September 12, 1795. His parents were Charles and Huldah (Chamberlain) Dickerson. They moved to Seneca County New York in 1798.
In the autumn of 1825, he and his cousin Joseph Dickerson came to Michigan in Salem Township, where they bought 80 acres of land, and land in Wayne County. He returned to New York July 1826.
- David Dickerson was born in New York in 1796. He was a farmer. He married Miss Sarah Jane Wood, daughter of Daniel and Silence Wood. In 1860, he moved to Ypsilanti Township, Washtenaw County. He died a short time after moving to his western settlement.
- Peter Dickinson (cousin to my family) ranked amongst the substantial farmers of Ypsilanti Township. He was a native of Ontario County, New York, where he was born in 1811. He married Sarah Jane Dickerson, daughter of Abraham and Lucretia (Bull) Dickerson (My great great grandfather). In 1857, he came west and settled in Ypsilanti township, where he purchased a farm of 160 acres. He had three children living in 1881.
All of the above information was in the History of Washtenaw County." Beware of this, since I have found errors in these books.
