My name is Mr. Darcy. I am good friends with Mr. Bingley, and through him I was introduced to the Bennet family. Although I was not immediately attracted to Elizabeth, I slowly began to fall in love with her. When she came to take care of Jane at Netherfield, I realized how learned and witty she was. I restrained my regard, however, because Elizabeth was of a lower class than myself and had nothing to offer me. Eventually I could no longer control my love, but she refused my offer of marriage because she thought I had too many faults. She was mistaken about many of my supposed faults, and once I corrected her about these and changed myself enough to suit her, she and I became engaged.
