The Rascals' Album-by-Album analysis

On the following pages, I present my analysis of the instrumental performances on all the Rascals' records.
I don't believe this information is available elsewhere; at any rate, the work is all original.

I have based my analysis on the following information:

1. Songwriting credits are taken from the ASCAP or BMI databases.
(Except certain songs by Gene Cornish and Dino Danelli, which don't appear to be registered.)

2.  I assume that:
- all keyboards are played by Felix unless indicated otherwise in the album notes
- all guitars are played by Gene unless indicated otherwise in the album notes
- all drums are played by Dino

3. Other instrumental credits are taken from the liner notes.
When the notes don't assign players to specific tracks, I note my best guess with "?"

4. Backing vocals are often just a best-guess situation.  I based my choices on:
- an interview I read somewhere in which Gene stated that he stopped singing backing vocals
before the Rascals' third album (Groovin'), so that David Brigati could fill in instead
- knowing the sound of the singers' voices from identified lead vocal performances

5. Credits may be derived from other sources;
for example, Dave Marsh credits Chuck Rainey with bass on "Groovin'" in The Heart of Rock and Soul.
The booklet to the box set All I Really Need also contains instrumentalist credits.

6. Gene is credited with bass on early records, and some biographies state he also played the harmonica.
I have sometimes given him a questionable credit for these instruments.

FORMAT:
instruments are identified in the stereo mix :
(l) - left speaker/earphone, (c) - center, (r) - right

Percussion - I don't want to try to identify who played which percussion instrument,
so all these are listed in their own line
(I believe that early "live in the studio" recordings probably feature Eddie on percussion,
especially as there's no percussion when he's singing lead, but I wouldn't swear to it)

Vocals - I identify each "performance" separately.
There may be multiple backing vocal overdubs, each in a separate location in the spectrum, so a credit may read:
"Felix - lead (c); Eddie & Dave - backing (l); Eddie & Dave - backing (r)",
meaning that Felix sings lead in the middle, Eddie & Dave perform one
backing vocal track on the left, and Eddie & Dave perform another backing vocal track on the right.
