Curly Locks & Melanin
Sometimes I wish that I could change my hair
That it wouldn't get puffy in the damp air.
I'm learning to change my mind
White doesn't equal beauty all of the time
That's okay, that's just fine
When I see my "sistas" with colored skin
I see beauty in their melanin.
I'm learning to value curly locks
So-called "big booties"
That draw men by the flocks
All those curves should be appreciated
Not mocked
Because they rock!
You hear me sistas, we rock!
When I hear people speak
Their accents become more unique
I like them how they are
Especially when they roll their R's
I can't wait to see them on the silver screen
Being big stars
Treated like queens
No longer the maids
Or the people who drive the cars
If white was right for the last thousand years
Then being colored is going to row the homestretch in
I'm so glad I can see it as it begins
