Anger overwhelmed the Blanche's suburban home.
The very walls that held the family in cried in
terror for the madness to swiftly come to an end.
"I hate you dad!" Melissa screamed at the top of
her lungs. Her flat sandy blond hair sprouted out
from every which way.
Mrs. Blanche protectively stepped in from of his
wife.
"Rachel, just move out of the way, I'll handle
her." The man of the house spoke in a firm tone.
Showing support, Mrs.Blanche put her slender
hand on her husband's shoulder. "Just remember
Xavier, she's our daughter and she'll straighten
herself up one of these days."
He tilted his head down towards his wife, putting
his hand over hers, then glanced at their daughter
with her arms crossed staring out the bay window.
"No, Rachel, Melissa is completely out of line.
I've...we have put up with all of her lies,
scandals and utter disrespect for the last four
years."
Xavier headed towards his daughter like a torpedo
to its target.
Face to face, Melissa mocks her father with a
wicked laugh. "Whatever dad. It's not like you can
do anything to control me." Her voice icy, "I will
be eighteen in a year and besides if you put one
hand on me or do anything I don't like, I'll notify
the police, call protective services and say you've
been abusing me."
His eyes black. "You little liar!"
"Xavier, calm down," Mrs. Blanche offered,
"Melissa wouldn't do that. She's bluffing and she's
angry."
"That's it!" Mr. Blanche screamed.
Melissa rolled her eyes, "Shut your trap old
man!"
Mr. Blanche's shest beated like an incoming
locomotive train. "Rachel, I love you but I refuse
to take this. YOu shouldn't have to deal with this
mess. This time I am going to put an end to all of
her crap."
Mrs. Blanche looked to her husband for some kind
of explanation.
"What do you mean put an end to her?"
Melissa took a step closer to her mother.
"Yeah, dad, answer the woman."
"I should of done this a long time ago," looking
to his daughter, "You are going to a juvenile
dentention center and that's that."
Mrs. Blanche sprung over to her husband hoping
she could find some way to change his mind.
"But honey--"
"No, Rachel, that's final. She's ran out of
second, third, and fourth chances. It's our job
as parents to disipline our child. We have let her
get by with too much for too long. Forget about
what those so called "perfect" people in our
neighborhood will say."
Melissa runs over to her mother's side.
"Mom, do something! YOu can't just let that
crapface put me in a jail like I'm some kind of
wild animal."
"Xavier, she's our daughter," Mrs. Blanche
pleaded.
"Rachel, I am not a spritual man, but dealing
with Melissa has brought me to my knees," he rakes
his hands through his hair, "You know I'm not into
that 'God thing' but I am smart enough to know I
cannot handle this on my own. So I thought I would
give God a chance and try prayer out."
Melissa angrily throws her hands up, "Okay, dad's
gone crazy!"
"Melissa shut up!" Mrs. Blanche urged her husband
to continue speaking.
"All I know is there's a scripture in the Bible
that warns parents to not exempt their child from
discipline because you will spoil the child. It is
time we take a stand."
Tears come down Mrs. Blanche's eyes while Melissa
stares at her father in bitter hate.
Seeing his wife's pain Mr. Blanche barks a
command to Melissa, "Upstairs, now!"
As Melissa heads for the stairs she turns around
to her parents, "I hate you," then rushes up the
stairs to her room, slamming the door.
Mr. Blanche gently pulls his wife into his arms,
hugging her.
"This is the only way I know how to help her,"
his voice tender, "you know I love her and I love
you, but I do not see any other solution."
Mrs. Blanche slightly pulls away from her husband
to look him in the eyes.
"There must me some other way, there must be."
A fresh set of tears fill her eyes again.
"She can't stay here, Rachel, she would stay in
trouble and she's to angry to compromise with us.
"Let's give her time to cool off."
Mr. Blanche takes a deep breath.
"I wish we could but--"
A pinch of hope glimmered in her eyes. "Melissa
could stay at my Mother's for a month or so.
It would give her time to calm down, think
rational."
"I don't know."
Rachel grabs her husband's hands and gives him a
tight squeeze. "Please, Xavier, for me. She's
always got along wonderful with Mother. And you
know how mother is spiritual. I have no need for
that, but maybe that might help Melissa in some
form."
"Well--"
"Please." Rachel's eyes full of mercy.
Xavier kisses his wife's nose. "Okay. I'll give
her one month at your mother's not a day more.
And if I see no profound change in Melissa's
attitude she's off to Children's Village."
With adoring eyes Rachel kindly says, "I love you,
Xavier."
Mr. Blanche takes his wife into his arms and
comforts her with a loving kiss."
