7/26 A lot has happened since the last time I updated the website. We've played five games in the last month. During those games we won 3 of them, tied a game and had to forfeit a game. Since my last update we also had an outside practice, had Andy and Dana both quit the team and had Dana rejoin the team shortly after he quit. We have one game left in the regular season and then its time for playoffs. According to the schedule our last game will be on the 8th of August so I think that we don't have a game next week. However, Skateplex has been known to schedule in a most retarded way so, make sure you check their website before next Monday. Also, those whom still owe money make sure that you get your money in this upcoming Sunday so we can be paid off before playoffs. Since our season is coming to an end I think now is a good time to reflect over last season and see what we have and have not accomplished. Our biggest accomplishment has been how we've changed the way we play hockey. Before the season started, we played a run and gun system without any kind of game plan. Since then, we're passing more, we're manning up in our defensive zone and we're covering each other’s position when necessary. As a result we've laid down the framework for how our team will develop in the future. However, this season we didn't practice as much as I would have liked to and next season we're going to have to work hard in order to correct our no practicing ways. To make sure that this doesn't happen next summer, personally I’m going to play for one less team so I’ll have some extra money for practices. What you do is entirely up to you just make sure that you have extra money for practice. |
See You Next Game, |

6/21 It's been a while since the last time I posted any news. Our team has been going threw some rough times and it's hard to write about our shortcomings. Still, some things need to be said so we can move on. This week is the third week in a row in which we haven't practiced. Threw the grapevine it has come to my attention that some players don't believe that we need to practice. I can't see how anyone can think that practice is unimportant. All you have to do in order to see how vital our practices have been to our team is to watch the way we have been playing. Last night during our game I saw everyone manning up in our defensive zone. With only 5 practices we completely shut down the opposing teams offence in spite of the fact that they had two ringers who played in the silver division. Also, every time our defense skate into the defensive zone, one of our offense men skated back to cover their spot. I believe that there is nothing more important to a team’s success then to practice. Everything that we've learned is only a small fraction of the plays that i intend to share with the team this season. The drills that we do during our practices are the same drills that were run for Eastern last season, whom is currently ranked #1 in the nation among other college teams in their division. I would like to continue practicing as soon as we can so it is important that we get some money together before our next game. Furthermore, some people still owe money for league fees. Dana owes $106 and Andy owes $160 still. Also, unless Jay comes back soon we are going to be $90 short of covering the season. If those two could pay off their debt as soon as possible then we won't incur any late fees. |
Send me an email and let me know what you think, |

6/6 Tonight we played a very good game. I was happy to see that both lines were manning up well in the defensive zone. Both Rich and Ben played defense particularly well. Brian and will also did a good job covering Andy and I when we skated into the offensive zone. Furthermore, Dana had another excellent game and all of our hard work ended in another victory against the girl team. On a separate note, our practice last week didn't go as well as I hopped it would. People were screwing around between drills and there was some confusion over what we were doing during practice. I've decided to structure practice differently to solve this problem. The changes are as follows: Before practice starts we will take five minutes to go over all the drills that we will be running. Also, we will make a point to have everyone skate to the bench after each drill so that we regroup quicker and get threw our drills faster. I believe that these small changes will result in a more efficient and overall better practice for everybody. Finally I would like to say that we have to start collecting money for the tournament next Sunday because we have to be registered for the tournament a week before it starts. We'll discuses this in depth next practice. |
Good work tonight boys!, |

5/25 I would like to say thanks to all those who showed up to practice tonight Practice went well and I’m pleased with the effort put forth by all those who attended. Cathy took some sweet pictures tonight and they are available in the picture section of the web site. Before I left practice I took the liberty of reserving spots for our next five practices. The next five practices are scheduled for the following times. |
6/1/05 | 11:30pm | Blue Rink |
6/8/05 | 11:00pm | Red Rink |
6/15/05 | 11:20pm | Blue Rink |
6/22/05 | 11:20pm | Blue Rink |
6/29/05 | 11:00pm | Red Rink |
|
The reason why I reserved these practices so far in advance is because it will bring down the total cost of practice from $110 per session to $90 per session. Furthermore, during practice the team decided to attend the tournament at High Velocity Sports, which will take place on the 24th of June. For more details on the tournament visit www.hvsports.com. Once I confirm the tournament date with Dana I will register the team as soon as possible. Finally, I would like to tell everyone about the changes I’m going to make to the web page during the next week or so. The First change you might notice is that money owed by players will no longer be displayed on the “players” section of the web site. The reason why I took the “money owed” off this section is because I’m going to start changing the roster section into more of a player profile archive. Another reason why I’m removing this section is because money owed to the team is become too complex to display on the web site. Examples of this complexity include players owing money for practice while some players still owe for league fees. Further Complexity came about when one player actually paid for a practice in advance that doesn’t technically play for the Whalers. So, if you want to know your current balance regarding the team, email me and I’ll let you know your balance. The Other change to the web site includes our teams’ current stats, which should be added to the site tomorrow. |
Thats all for now, |

5/24 Good work on another successful game boys! We steamrolled the cobras last night and got our first win of the regular season. Will lead the team in points last night with four goals and two assists. I was also happy to see chuck Ben and Will manning up particularly well last night. Furthermore, Rich made some excellent passes and Nathan had a solid game in net. Cathy took a few pictures during the game so check them out because they look awesome. The curse continued this week when Dana didn't attend practice and hurt his foot. However, Dana said he’d be back in net within the next two games. Practice this week is going to be at 11:50pm on Wednesday at Skateplex. Practice will cost somewhere between $10 and $15 depending on how many people show up. I expect everyone able to attend practice to be there so practice won't be too costly. Finally I would like to tell you that I'm currently working on stats for the web page so look for that soon. |
Peace, |

5/16 Rich Plays Like Infant! |
The Whalers 8-1 win proves that women should get off the hockey rink and back in the kitchen. |
|
In all seriousness though Rich played well and overall we played a good game. Tonight I saw a lot of good plays come from our team. For example, I saw us start to man up in our defensive zone and I saw our offence cover our defense when they skated up in the offensive zone. Will played well by staying in front of the net and leading our team in goals. Andrew also made a huge contribution by making some particularly good passes and by giving out some good advice during the game. For the record, any advice that Andrew gives should be taken seriously because he knows a lot about hockey. Dana also deserves some recognition because he played another excellent game in net. I would like to remind everyone that we have practice on Wednesday at 11:50pm. Since our last practice was canceled it's important that everyone makes this practice. Also, practice is important because if you don’t go to practice god will break your foot as he did to Jay last week. Lastly I would like to say if you still owe some money for this season make sure you get that in as soon as possible. |
See you on Wednsday, |

5/9 The best way to start off a season is with a win. Our first game was excellent. A couple of us played particularly well tonight and I would like to give them there due recognition. Chuck led the team in scoring with his four goals. Dana played a stellar game between the pipes. Also, Rich and Ben played excellent defense together. Overall we all played well and we should be proud of ourselves. I would like to remind some people that they still owe some money (including myself) so make sure you get that in as soon as possible. Furthermore, We are going to have a practice this Friday so make sure you clear your schedules. Also, don't forget that our next game is Monday at 10:10pm. |
Good work everybody, |

4/4 We are on our way to registration. All we need to do is get the initial deposit collected and we are good to go. Since I’m currently in Ypsilanti and won’t be home until late April or early May Will is going to be collecting the money. Everyone has to give him $50 so we can get our deposit together. I ended up putting our team in the Monday copper division at Skateplex because it was a hell of a lot cheaper and I don’t think we’re ready for bronze yet. It’s going to cost each player roughly $156 total for the season. I already gave my deposit to Will so make sure you guys get yours to him soon. |
See you in May, |

3/4 Good work at practice boys. For those who couldn't go to practice all you need to know is that we worked on passing and manning up in our defensive zone. I plan for our next practice to be in the second week of April. After much consideration, I’m going to put the team in the copper division at Joe Dumars Fieldhouse. The reason why I want to put the team in this division is because the copper league at dumars is a bit tougher then the copper league at skateplex and not quite as tuff as the bronze league at skateplex. The league fee is going to be $200 per skater and I’m going to collect the money at our next practice. During the summer, I also want to go to a tournament in canton at the end of June. I would also like to schedule a practice every Thursday once summer starts. Don’t forget beer and pizza night. |
hope to see you at drop in tomorrow, |

12/29 Great practice guys. I don't think that the practice could have gone better. If you couldn't make the practice all you have to know is that we practiced our passing and Defence. Also, we had a scrimmage where we weren't allowed to use any kind of stick handeling therefore the scrimmage was all passing and positioning. I’ll let you guys know when we have the next practice. |
Keep up the good work, |

12/15 It's been a while since the team has gotten together to practice or gone to drop in. This is just a result of my being at college. It's difficult to organize a practice when the closest team member lives two hours away from me. Anyways, Christmas break is around the corner and I think it would be an excellent time to get some much needed practice. I'll schedule a couple practices at Skateplex as soon as I get back home. I was also thinking that it would be an excellent time to play some pond hockey. One thing I’ve learned since I’ve gotten my new job at the ice arena is that ice time is expensive. We should take advantage of the frozen ponds while we still can. I would also like to give props to those who played for the wolf pack in the thanksgiving tournament. Enjoy those free beer mugs guys. Also, both the Wolf pack and Yellow Jackets did well in the adult fall regular season, finishing in second and third place respectively. I know that the playoffs have already started and possibly have already ended but, no one has filled me in with the details yet. I’ll be contacting you guys next week. |
See you on the flip side, |
Karl |

10/4 Well, November’s practice was a bust. If we're going to be a good team we need to make plans around practice. Chuck will be planing the next practice. Word on the street is that chuck is planning on having practice on the 23rd so clear your schedules. Anyone who hasn't received their jersey will get them at this practice. Some people still owe some money from last practice so, if you do those needs to be paid. Also, Jay can get us a discount on home jerseys and roller hockey pants. Just something to think about. |
GO TO THE NEXT PRACTICE, |
Karl |

9/10 THE JERSEYS ARE IN!!! I think they look pretty sweet. Chuck, Rich, Ben and I used them at drop in tonight and Cathy took pictures of us. I posted the pictures on the site just incase anyone wanted to see what the jerseys look like. If you weren't at drop in tonight then you can get your jersey at the next practice. I'm still thinking of having the practice on the 25th of September so, if this is a problem let me know. |

8/21 Great first practice! We're a little rough around the edges but, that's why we're practicing. I forgot to tell you guys at the practice that you might want to practice what we've learned in your games during the fall. This way you'll have it down pat when the summer season starts. I was thinking that we should have our next practice on the 25th of September. Even if you have a house game on this date we could schedule the practice accordingly. I would like to thank Jess and Cat for the great pictures, check them out on the Picture page. |
Give me an email to let me know if the 25th is a good date for you, |
Karl |

8/18 I ordered the jerseys today and they will be ready in a couple of weeks. The jerseys won't cost $20 per jersey infact, they were cheaper then i expected. Each jersey is only going to cost about $18 therefore, if you were going to pay for practice and the jersey its only going to cost $29. |
see you at the practice, |
Karl |

8/15 Welcome to the site! We're having practice on the 21st at 9:40. Bring $11 to help pay for the practice. I'm also tring to collect money for jerseys early, so bring an extra $20 for that if you can. Finally i would like to say that i look forward to playing with you guys and to check the web site often for updates. |
thanks for your time, |
