This WebQuest is to be used as a compendium to the study of the novel Speak. After reading the flashback at the end of "Marking Period Three," we are now aware that Melinda was the victim of rape. This is a violent crime that affects men and women of all ages throughout the world. It would behoove us to learn more about teen dating violence lest we, like the characters in the novel, are confronted with it unarmed. For instance, what would you do were you to learn that your friend was being emotional abused by his or her significant other, and where could you turn for help?
You and your team are high school guidance counselors who are concerned about the incidence of teen dating violence in the area, and the ability of others to recognize the signs that one has been a victim of it. You have decided to educate the student body about this phenomenon.
