Little babies, when they're born, they walk before they talk,
But baby Christians, long reborn, we talk before we walk.
It's so easy to say the Name without really calling,
And it's easier to stay in bed than face the fear of falling.
They say the battle's over and the victory has been won,
But before us life stretches out--we have a race to run.
You can't count on anything, tomorrow may not come.
And, though it may sound cliched, easier said than done.
Easier said than done, my friend, easier said than done.
Memorize your verses, fold your hands, recite a prayer.
Easier said than done, my friend, easier said than done.
Though your promises fill the air
It's easier said than done.
I struggle for a balance in my theology.
All that I can claim as mine is this hypocrisy.
I speak the words quite movingly, I have each phrase down right.
I know I am in shadow but I seem to walk in light.
I am a great chameleon, a master of disguise,
Perfect Sunday, but in the week my testimony dies.
Oh Lord God! I rail against my own humanity.
Why does selfishness survive in Christianity?
Easier said than done, my friend, easier said than done.
Memorize your verses, fold your hands, recite a prayer.
Easier said than done, my friend, easier said than done.
Though your promises fill the air
It's easier said than done.
The Lord has said lip-service is displeasing to Him,
So why is lip-service all that I give?
The Lord has said that hypocrites are displeasing to Him,
So why is hypocrisy all that I live?
Easier said than done, my friend, easier said than done.
Memorize your verses, fold your hands, recite a prayer.
Easier said than done, my friend, easier said than done.
Though your promises fill the air
It's easier said than done.
