T.E.A.R.S. has collected
data not only
from Los Angeles community, but, also from
communities
across the Nations who have similarar problem
and
situations.
The rising numbers of weapons in Los Angeles
confuses
reflects, a nationwide trend. The federal
Center For
Disease Control says one student in 20 claims
to carry a
gun. There are more weapons within the
communities
and societies in general. Unfortunately, it
is quite easy
to obtain guns. Expert blame the rise of
gangs, parent
irresponsiability and exposure to violence in
the media.
Students say that they pack weapons to lead
off attackers,
feel safe or merely to show off. And the
weapon of choice
ranges from knives to sharpened screwdrivers,
replica guns
to the real thing, which are all banned on
American school
"confuses". In March 1992 a 17 year old at
Dorsey High
shot and killed himself with his mother's
22-caliber
pistol
while playing Russian roulette on a baseball
team bus. A
10 year-old boy sneaked his uncle's hand gun
into a
Willowbrook school and accidently
shot and
wounded a classmate. December 1992, Little
Rock, Ark. a
14-year old
shot in the chest after an argument with an
18-year old.
In
the past three years there has been countless
killing
amongst our student just in the schools long.
1996-1998 a
student shot and killed another another
student in gang
rivals. In Springfield, Organ Kip Kinkel shot
and killed 2
and wounded 22. South West Los Angeles, 18th
Street gang
member shot and killed a young police
officer. Youths
gets
guns from their parents, friends, gun
dealers, and on the
street. Gang experts are particularly
distribute by the
rising numbers of weapons surfacing Junior
High School,
many officials believe younger students pack
weapons to
deal
gang intimidtion, real gang rival as they
want to avoid
getting in gangs.
Students don't talk about other students, In
some American
schools most regard guns as just another
counter-culture
plaything, like cigarettes, drugs, or
alochol. Students
conforts themselves by saying that the guns
are for show,
not acton, just props that sends out a
warning that most
students understands and obeys.
