To date the Yellow Medicine East Sting are undefeated. We are the top team in our section, and in most of Southwestern Minnesota so far. We had our first real test on 4-30-98 against Benson. We squeaked by with a 4-3 win. We will beat them worse tomorrow because substitutions will be unnecessary. The Sting have a top group of about6 or 7 that will mostly hold their position all season, and the rest of the spots change around every once and a while depending on who we play.

Today came the Stings first loss. There was a controversial(questionable, dumb) switch in the lineup that cost us the match. We could have gone with the same line-up as Thursday, but we swithched it, and there went the match. Our 2nd doubles team won the medals at that slot, and that was it for medeling. we beat MACCRAY 6-1, and Luverne 6-1. Our records improved to 15-1 on a cold early spring day in Benson. I played third doubles in the MACCRAY match and my partner and I had a hard fought 10-5 win. We will be traveling to Morris Monday for a match, and hopefully 16-1 will happen then. We had our first loss, which shows that we are mortals, but it was hard fought, and we don't have to worry about Benson at sections.

Almost a week has passed. We had three varsity matches this week. I believe that that pushes our record up to 18-1? I am not sure on that. We defeated Morris on Monday 5-2, we defeated Milbank on Thursday, and we defeated Pipestone today 5-2. The team is improving in all forms: attitude, skills, playing together, and other key areas. We have a junior varsity match-up in Willmar tomorrow. It should be a fun day.
The season ended in May with a 4-3 loss to Section rival Montevideo. A 2 loss season was good, but all of us had looked forward to a trip to the state tournament. Next tennis season starts in March. State in '99.

Hey all. I should have kept up with this site this year because this was the year. We lost twice during the regular season to Benson but went undefeated in the section. We also beat Minnewaska, a first time opponent. The lineup was as follows:
1st Jason Ford
2nd Brandon Hall
3rd Jered Field
4th Mark Sheggeby
1d Jered Timm - Danny Eye
2d Ryan Cherveny - David Syring
3d Charlie Hewitt - Colin Kramer
We won the section tournament with victories over first round Montevideo 6-1 and finals Pipestone 6-1. We lost first round of the state tournament to eventual champions Winona Cotter 6-1. Then our big heartbreak came against Park Rapids in the consolation bracket. We lost 6-1 to Park Rapids. Charlie and mine first loss of the year came there. I don't know if I will ever get over that loss.
Summer practices and kids hitting the courts will lead our team to another good season but archrival Benson will be in our section tournament and they should be tough. It will be an exciting season.
