Joseph Paul Larson, Jr. was born in Mabel, Minnesota, on August 01, 1939 to Joseph M. and Palma Larson in the house where he grew up and where he has lived since he was married. Joseph has three older sisters, Beverly, Dorothy, and Phyllis. After graduating from Mabel High School in 1957 he attended Luther College graduating in 1961. Joseph's first teaching job was at Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin, teaching high school English for a year. The next year he went to the University of Minnesota to take graduate coarses in education. He returned to teaching in Preston, Minnesota, teaching junior high English from 1963-1965. Joseph quit teaching in June 1965 and joined his father working in his hardware store. Deanna Marie Scheevel was born in Cresco, Iowa, on October 17, 1948 to Melvin and Frances Scheevel, the eldest of 6 children, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. She went to country school for 6 1/2 years before attending and graduating from Harmony High School. Deanna graduated from Methodist Kahler School of Nursing in 1969 and worked at the Rochester Methodist Hospital in othopedics for 1 year. Joseph and Deanna were married on October 16, 1970 in the Greenleafton Church. Four children were born to this union; Paul Melvin, Timothy Robert, Matthew William, and Marie Frances. Deanna became a stay at home wife and mother at their Mabel home for many years. Joseph was chairman of the Mabel Centennial celebration and Steam Engine Days in 1979. When Joseph Sr. died in 1985, Joseph Jr. took over over ownership of the hardware store where he continues to work. Deanna has been working at the Green Lea Manor nursing home Dietary Department for 8 years. They are both a member of Mabel First Lutheran Church where Joseph serves on the church council. Deanna enjoys being active in the church community and school activities as well as crafts and needle work. |
