First Appearance: Daredevil #5
Created by Charles Biro
Sniffer was introduced as a member of a villainous mob called "The Deadly Dozen" who were sent out to track down and destroy DD. Sniffer, in his first bloodthirsty form, even appears on the cover to DD #5. Shortly after, Sniffer (with the Deadly Dozen) was given his own feature in Daredevil. From this point on Sniffer is a Carl Hubbell character in a humor strip. The original title: "The Deadly Dozen with SNIFFER." (however, Sniffer usually only hung out with maybe one or two of them in each episode. Hubbell tended to favor the mobster "Satan" for some reason as Sniffer's sidekick.)
Sniffer was slotted to get his own magazine. Unfortunately it never materialized, despite being advertised throughout the Gleason line. (Timing corresponds to the war paper shortage.)
Some time in the late 40's the Sniffer strip is moved out of Daredevil Comics and into Boy Comics where it pretty much continues until the end.
Sniffer's massive physical strength was matched by his astute sense of smell.
