Dark exotic voices assail you from all sides... whisperings... quietly fading.

A soft wispy voice grates upon the air,
"Stranger, you have entered my domain.
I would advise you to tread gently..."

A waify figure of a girl separates herself from the shadows, her dark eyes appraising you. You have the distinct impression that she is reading you like a scroll, and cast wary eyes about, looking for something to hide behind... something to separate her gaze from yours... you fear you will lose yourself in those dark orbs; something within its depths frighten you... something resembling a distant storm, yellow flashes of lightning tearing the sky, coming closer, and closer to the surface...

"There is a difference between terror and fear, child. Terror is blind;
stumbling through muddy paths on a moonless night...
once you know me, stars will shed their cold light, guiding your journey to nowere...
and so, your terror will dissolve into mere fear..."

You start briefly, as the vision fades... sensation returning. You stare at the screen before you, wondering...

My names are many- Esmerel, Mandelaea, Calysto, Lady Daria... and in my past lives- Nocta, Nocteer, Artemis... as you can tell, I am a fan of the fantasy world. Science fiction likewise captures my attention, with its bold visions of the future, enticing us to glance up from our busy lives once in a while to see the infinite possibilities... and warning us of the dangers which may befall us, lest we remain vigilant.

At the same time, there is definitely something almost mystical about a life rooted in reality. The feel of a stell skate blade caressing the ice, the scent of a new book opened for the first time... the ability of words to sprout wings, grasp you, and take you into another world...

I believe in a world of real knowledge. What does that mean? We shouldn't be content with shallow understanding... of anything, or anyone. To truly enjoy life, one must experience it first. There are so many pitfalls along the mighty odyssey of life, we are all inevitably afraid... some find solace within religion, or faith... some claim that destiny works her threads upon their existences... I do not believe in God. Or destiny, for that matter. It is true that everyone has a fate. "A" fate which has not been doled out by some super-being who has grand designs in mind. When you really get down to it, how you live life is all up to you. There may not be a purpose, people may not remember you 10,000 years from now...

Is that depressing? Does that lead you to the conclusion that life is meaningless? If that's true, shouln't the whole human race be exterminated, or commit mass suicide? Hey, each of us has the option of terminating our lives anytime we want to. Why do I choose to live? I don't know. Perhaps because there are infinite things out there that i have not seen/heard of/touched/listened to/felt... I really can't choose to give up something I do not even know of yet, can I?
