"Why couldn't I help him?" Tomer asked himself out loud, "Why did I just freeze? I wanted to help him but… but…" Another wave of tears stopped him in mid-sentence, and he vomited into the toilet again. Suddenly, the door opened. Tomer spun around, too shocked to care whom it was.
Tomer heard Joey's voice, "Hey Tomer, what are you doing in there? Wait a sec… are you crying? What happened, buddy?" Tomer was too embarrassed to admit what had happened, but when he tried to speak, he just vomited into the toilet again. Joey could tell that something was drastically wrong with his friend. The last time he saw Tomer cry was when his father was buried at the funeral. Tomer had run away into a nearby bathroom and when Joey found him again, he was crying a whole lot, but he DEFINITELY was NOT throwing up. Joey had never seen Tomer cry since. This was major, no doubt about it.
"Tomer, are you okay?" Joey asked, concerned.
"G… Get the… the others here, quick." Tomer sobbed, "W… Wait a minute, Joey. I… I don't want them to… to see me… like… like this."
"Okay, Tomer." Joey answered. After Tomer calmed down a bit, Joey left to find Tim and Chris. When he returned, Tomer still looked a bit shaken up, but he was much improved since he last saw him.
"What happened to you, Tomer?" Tim asked.
"Sam… Sam… he… he's…" Tomer began, but yet another flush of tears stopped him in mid-sentence.
"Oh man, this is pretty serious." Tim whispered to Joey, who silently agreed.
When Tomer finished crying, Joey, Tim, and Chris took him into one of the unused classrooms where no one else would see them. There, Tomer finally told them the entire story. About Sam following the bunny, about crawling into the air vents, about freezing when Sam's toes were being devoured, about the bunny's speech, about crying, everything. Tomer usually was one who kept his feelings to himself, a detail that made everyone suspend their disbelief and almost immediately realize that either Tomer has convinced himself of something terrible, or something that terrible had actually occurred. Tomer added,
"Just look in this floor's forum room. You'll see that I'm telling the truth." Chris and Tim decided to check it out, and Joey decided to stay with Tomer.
"Do you think something has actually happened to Sam?" Chris asked.
"I'm not sure, I hope not!" Tim answered. Tim and Chris were shocked to find a trail of bloody bunny prints leading out of the forum room, just as Tomer said.
"I'll go in first," Tim volunteered. Tim opened the door and went inside. Suddenly, Tim bolted right back out of the door and vomited on the floor in disgust. Chris took one step in the door, and nearly wet his pants. Sam was lying on the floor in a fetal position, his feet bare, all ten of his toes had been apparently bitten off, blood still flowing from the gaping wounds. Sam's throat had been severed, and his head was barely connected to the rest of his body. His pulmonary artery was still pumping, causing blood to spurt from his neck in sickening amounts. Chris vomited several times right then and there, turning his skin a deathly pale white, his heart going a mile a minute.
Both boys were thinking, "What did this? Why would something do this? How could a BUNNY do this?" Cursing wouldn't have done this scene justice, but let's just say Chris did a pretty good job. Chris and Tim solemnly walked back to Tomer and Joey. Tears were in their eyes and sadness in their hearts. Chris cursed the evil bunnies again, but it didn't really help him feel any better. "We have to get out of here." Tomer said. The others nodded in unison.
