My only rule, is that you don't kill off any characters that aren't your own. ( Unless you get that person's permission to kill them off) An example of this would be, if you get tired of playing one of your characters, and decide to get rid of him/her. You can have as many characters (from the show or made up) as long as you can keep up with them all.
