CYVIC - Citizens and Youth Violence Intervention Council - invites you, your family, organizations, businesses to join together to build a violence-free community.
You are invited to sign the entire pledge and commit to the seven components in the months to come.
Encourage organizations to sign the pledge and include copies of it and the components in their newsletters.
Urge businesses to sign the pledge and advertise it and the components in their communications with employees and the public.
Making peace must start within ourselves and in our family.
I pledge to commit myself as best I can to become nonviolent and peacable:
I pledge to respect myself and to avoid self-destructive behavior.
I pledge to affirm others and to avoid hateful words, physical attacks and uncaring criticism.
I pledge to share my feelings honestly, look for safe ways to express my anger, and to work at solving problems peacefully.
I pledge to listen carefully to one another, especially those who disagree with me, and to consider others' feelings and needs rather than insist on having my own way.
I pledge to apologize and make amends when I have hurt another, to forgive others, and to keep from holding grudges.
I pledge to treat the environment and all living things, including pets, with respect and care.
I pledge to select entertainment and toys that support our family's values and to avoid entertainment that makes violence look exciting, funny or acceptable.
I pledge to challenge violence in all its forms whenever it is encountered.
I pledge to stand with others who are treated unfairly.
