The Abominable Snowman
(1957)
Tagline: See It With Someone Brave! - A Timeless Terror to Freeze You to Your Seats!
Nigel Kneale adapted his BBC production "The Snow Creature" for this Hammer production starring Peter Cushing (the good guy) and Forrest Tucker (a corrupt opportunist) as explorers who go tramping around looking for "The Abominable Snowman of the Himilayas" (the original release title) in Tibet. But the creature is none too friendly in this British thriller, and at one point we see a hairy hand reaching into their tent, groping around for something or someone. In the radio broadcast version of this story, there were three explorers, and only one returned to tell the tale.
Directed by Val Guest, 85 minutes, filmed in widescreen format
Remade as "Snowbeast" (1977) starring Yvette Mimieux and Bo Svenson, being stalked at a remote ski resort by the yeti. You could even call it an early ancestor of Alien
