In the Peak news paper in the IT IS column, the Peak declares Counsellor Derry Simpson a hero. "Kudos to frank councillor" they said, along with "Hats off to Counsellor Derry Simpson for telling it like it is."
The IT IS article stated that Simpson was concerned about the waste water treatment plant upgrade. The Peak stated, "He didn't gloss over the problems. He identified deficiencies and he didn't hide the fact that he was concerned about the upgrade."
Mr. Simpson is always concerned. He so concerned that he takes up hours a valuable Council meeting time to painfully go over every single minute detail of every issue while saying how concerned he is. The bottom line is this action does not allow much time for Council to get down to the business at hand.
The Peak also stated that "Simpson was the only councillor who was against this
plant since day one. Despite advice from staff, the rest of council seemed to think it was the best thing since sliced bread."
Why is because Mr. Simpson is against everything. I was told by one Counsellor that "No matter what we vote on Derry is against it. One time we had all are hands up when I noticed Simpson had his up too. At that moment I panicked and had the urge to lower my hand just to be safe on the safe side."
The fact of the matter is the Council Derry Simpson is not a team player. He is a carry over from the last Council and appears to do what he can to make this Council look bad.
Could Richard's Rules of Politics 7-8-9 apply to Mr. Simpson? You be the judge.
7. Always disagree with the other members on all issues so that you appear to be active and opinionated.
8. Make long speeches over every issue brought forward so that you may give
the appearance of being knowledgeable. If members of your own party become
bored to death and give you a hard time, then play the innocent victim. Use
catch phrases like."The people have a right to know!"
9. At election time, blame all broken promises and delays on the opposition
and the past elected party. If still cornered. Blame members of your own
party.
