**SHANICE IN CHICAGO**

Well it's over, the 8th Annual WGCI Music Seminar. I got good news & bad news. First the bad news to get it over with, lol. Shanice was supposed to appear on the R&B Workshop #1 Panel. Along with Tyrese, Narada Michael Walden, Songwriter Trovon Potts ("Angel Of Mine") & some more industry peeps. Well Shanice got in town late, so she was the only person that did not appear on the panel. So we can say that I was a little ticked off to say the least, lol. Considering the fact because of a goof up because of my friend, I had a ticket for the workshop with Jermain Dupri instead of the Shanice one. But it was Shanice, so I got in it, lol. So that's the bad news, because they were workshops & you were able to interact with the artist. Being that she was not there, there went my first chance to meet & talk to her, so I was down (~sad face~). However God is good & there is some good news. Shanice like I said made it into town, but was just late. So after the workshops was the luncheon & Quincy Jones was honored. Well Tevin Campbell was to perform, but T.C lost his voice so he ended up staying in the hotel room. So there was an opening (see where I'm going, lol) so no other then Shanice replaced him. Imagine my surprise & joy when the workshop was over & I passed the ball room & heard the greatest voice of all time doing her sound check. So that's when I found out she was added to the bill. Take in mind I have never seen her sing in person. So to make a long story short. After Quincy Jones received his much deserved award & the artist showcase was over & L.A & Babyface were done talking & teaching. It was time for the main performances & after Tyrese & Jesse Powell performed, Shanice came out & did her thing! Shanice looked beautiful (of course), she started out with "Yesterday" & the crowd kept applauding through her performance. Then she performed "When I Close My Eyes" & they did the blind fold set, & when she removed the blind fold & hit that note, it was over. She got a standing ovation (the only artists to get one by everyone in the room). You all would of been proud, because she did her "thang". Take in mind the people in this ball room were Quincy Jones, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Eric Benet', Rapheal Saadiq, Narada Michael Walden (her former writer & producer) & L.A & Babyface to name a few. They were all standing for Shanice when she was done. Shortly before her performance L.A spoke real high on her, in his speech about how LaFace does not sign artists because they can make them money. They sign great performers & he used Shanice as an example. Our girl is going places. So the bad news was I did not get to meet her like I had hoped, but I did get to see her sing live for the first time. So I'm sure our next encounter will be face to face, I can't wait!

**FAN CLUB & MORE**

Shanice World, The Unofficial Shanice Page & Shanice's Palace have been trying to get more of you to join the official Shanice fan club. Some have listened & others have not, lol. But it's very important that you join. Why you ask? Well let me tell you, see when you send off your letter or postcard to the fan club they know you are a fan. If you don't inform them, they don't. When they know there are plenty of fans (which there are millions) they do more. Like there is an official Shanice website in the works. It has been since before the album came out. But with the lack of fans joining the official club, they have been putting their energy elsewhere. So bottom line get those letters in, you can even send a post card (just something, lol). Check the contents page, or my favorite place (your j-card covers) for the address. Alright on to other business. The video for "Yesterday" will premiere soon (like next week) so keep checking BET for it. Monie informs us that they are about to re-shoot it, so there might be two videos for the same song (artists have been doing that lately) the latest is Brandy's "Almost doesn't count". Or that could mean that the other one was shelved & never to be seen, time will tell. If I get the chance I'll ask Shanice about it on Sunday at the WGCI conference. That's also when I will give her her birthday shouts, so thanks to you that have done them already. Her birthday isn't til the 14th of May so keep them coming. Last before I get out of here for the weekend. We will be having a contest real soon, I'll just say "real" Shanice fans will enjoy it. But the contest will only be open to those of you that have purchased Shanice's new album Shanice. I'll have more details next week.

**GIRLS NITE OUT**

Shanice made her appearence on BET's Girls Nite Out special Saturday night. Shanice performed her top 10 hit "When I Close My Eyes" & her premiered her new single "Yesterday". Shanice started with her latest single & sung it more powerful then she does on wax. Shanice ended her set with "When I Close My Eyes" where one of her dancers was a little late giving the mic back after their wonderful blind fold dance set. But Shanice didn't get off step, she kept "doing her thang". Shanice appeared later on the show with Deborah Cox, Monica, Andrea Martin & Faith Evans on the Chaka Khan classic "I'm Every Woman", the same number they closed with on "Divas Live" (for the record "Girls Nite Out" was recorded first, lol). It was a wonderful show. I have to say that I missed "Girl Talk" right before "Girls Nite Out" so I can't put that in the news. However anybody who saw it, feel free to e-mail me at tmhquestions@hotmail.com & tell me about it, lol. Shanice was wonderful as always. On the Billboard charts Shanice's single (WICME) falls from # 14 on the pop charts & # 6 on the R&B charts. Never fear "Yesterday" is on it's way UP!

**"YESTERDAY BLOWING UP!**

"Yesterday" was serviced to radio stations last week. The add date isn't til the end of the month, but did you know Shanice got 47 adds last week? That's right the second most added R&B song of the week. To let you know how good that is, Deborah Cox didn't get as many with "Nobody's supposed to be here" & that's currently the longest running #1 R&B song in history. I think Shanice can take it from her, what do you guys think? On top of getting added early on stations accross the U.S, Shanice also got a great review in the latest Billboard. Could "Yesterday" follow the success of "Iove your smile"? Only time will tell, but it's gonna be a joy to hear Shanice's voice everytimeI turn on the radio. Here's the press release I promised for the single!

Doesn't she look great? I can't wait for the video. For some reason it reminds me of "I'm Cryin". The campaign behind"Yesterday".
I have also changed the site if you didn't notice, lol. It was time for a change, let me know what you think? It's easier to get to each section now, plus the introduction page looks much better.

**BIRTHDAY LOVE, PRESS RELEASE & ONE MILLION VISITS**

What's up all? Well it's finally up. Shanice's birthday shouts section. You'll find it on the contents page. Show Shanice some love for her up-coming birthday on May 14. I will try & give her the shouts on May 2, in Chicago, so you have some time, make it sweet. Also "Yesterday" is getting early adds on radio, considering the official add date isn't til April 26. It was serviced to radio stations on April 12 & their jumping on it early, that's always a good sign. I got the new press release for "Yesterday" along with the promo single & I must say Shanice looks so beautiful in her white sweater. She has a stressed out look on her face, lol. I'll have the pic up later this week. But the press release is short & sweet, here it goes. It seems like only "Yesterday" and just look at her now. Introducing the latest single by Shanice. The follow up to her top 10 single "When I Close My Eyes", from her self-titlled LaFace Records debut album. It really does seem just like "Yesterday" that I was watching her first video "(Baby tell me) Can you dance" though, lol. I would also like to take this time to thank the Shanice fanz for making our site a success. We have had over one million visits since February 17, thanks for the support! A lot of changes coming to this site this week, so stay tuned! But I'm out for now, peace.

**CHARTS, REVIEW & MORE**

What's goin on all? It's been a crazy & busy week. But here's some news for you. Shanice is still #14 on the Hot 100. The single did not move this week, so that's good. The album is still under the top 100 on the top 200 & out of the top 40 on the R&B charts. Oh yeah the single is number 6 on the R&B charts, it falls from number 4. "Yesterday" is already getting ads on radio, last week Tawala Sharp from KKBT in L.A. says, "this will help anyone going through troubles in a relationship. The lyrics are really touching". I agree. For you who live in or near Chicago, Shanice will appear there on May 2 for the WGCI conference. Shanice will host along with Tyrese the R&B seminar #1. And she will perform at the dinner. Quincy Jones will be honored at the dinner by L.A (my boy) & Babyface ( my other boy, lol) , believe me if you can make it, you don't wanna miss it. Other artists appearing are Eric Benet, Jesse Powell, Gerald LeVert & more. Tickets are not that much. For more info call (312) 559-1212. If your gonna make it, e-mail me at ariestmh@hotmail, because I'm gonna be there. That's where I'll give Shanice her birthday wishes from everybody that signs it. I guess it would help if it was on the site, it will be on the site by monday (the big birthday card). So remember to wish her well on the 14 of May. I updated a lot of sections on the site so check them out. A lot of new things are coming up with this site so stay tuned!

**BILLBOARD CHARTS, REVIEW & BANNER**

In all the other news last week, I forgot to report where Shanice was on the charts. Well she has fallen two spots down to number 14 on the hot 100. But she has only been on the chart for 4 weeks. If the single keeps falling instead of going up, LaFace is gonna start pushing "Yesterday". It has a tenative add date of May 3rd. but I'm sure once radio pd's get a sound, they'll rush it. "WICME" is currently number 4 on the R&B charts so that's great! The album is steady falling also, but never fear, "Yesterday" in next! I promoise the album will rise. Speaking of Billboard. They recently did a review of the new CD & I must say I have to agree with them when they state that LaFace should of went with another first single. I know some will disagree with me, but I feel they should of went with "Don't fight it" or "You need a man" now that's just my opinion, don't fight me,lol. I have my reasons, if you ask me I'll tell you why. But before you read the review. I also wanna give a big THANK YOU to a Shanice World regular, Malika for making our site a tight banner. I have alsways wanted a banner, but have no clue how to make one, lol. Malika was kind enough to make us one & I promise you all will see that banner everywhere, lol. Thanks again Malika! Also a special shout to the new peeps that e-mailed me for Shanice Fanz, they should be in the section tomorrow. Well here's the review form Billboard.

Originally reviewed for week ending 3/27/99

Although she hasn't recorded an album in the five years since she left Motown, young R&B singer/songwriter Shanice has continued to hone her vocal and writing skills on Broadway, in films, and on other artists' projects. Her latest release reflects a still-youthful but more mature approach than she exhibited on her commercial breakthrough, the gold-certified 1992 album "Inner Child," which yielded the R&B chart-topper "I Love Your Smile." Produced by a team of studio stars that includes Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, Dallas Austin, and Jazz The Man, "Shanice" features the lush, dramatic ballad "When I Close My Eyes," which has made a moderate impact on the Hot R&B Singles & Tracks chart; the catchy, insistent "Don't Fight It"; and the melodically charged, vocally rich "You Need A Man." Despite the lack of a clear hit to set up the album, "Shanice" will benefit from a high-visibility campaign and other possibilities for singles.

**SHANICE DOES THE PLANET" & "LATER"**

What's up all? Well I won't be taking a vacation this weekend like I had earlier stated. It won't take place til the first week in May & I'll even be seeing Shanice that weekend in Chicago, I'll tell you more about that later. Bottom line is the site will still be updated. So let's get to it. Shanice was the only guest on not one, but two shows yesterday. Planet Groove & Later. On the planet Shanice was just wonderful. She performed various cuts from her new set including "Fy Away" (where she had the audience on their feet after she hit those high notes), "You need a man" & "You can bounce" (that she did back to back & wrecked it) & "Yesterday" & "When I Close My Eyes". She and her dancers did the blind fold dance, it was too tight! Shanice also performed "I Love Your Smile". They also played some of her older videos. The whole show was for Shanice. Shanice talked about Babyface, her new album, acting & what she's been up to. Shanice even confirmed the next single as "Yesterday". Just as that show aired some hours later, Shanice was on Later. There she was in a whole different state. Shanice did a acting skit at the begining of the show with the host. It was funny to me. See the host was trying to join the dancers being that unlike on Planet Groove there were only male dancers. So the host wanted to be a girl dancer in the clique. But she had no rhythm, so Shanice had to take care of it. To make a long story short, Shanice hit her with the mic stand & after that did not work Shanice ran after her to finish the job. It made me laugh & yesterday was not a great day for me, but seeing Shanice act goofy was very helpful. They even showed The Kentucky Fried Chicken commercial that I've heard so much about.

If you missed the shows you missed Shanice in great form, well she's always in great form, but you know what I mean. Planet Groove will air again today, so don't miss it!
We also got the VIBE article that should appear in next months issue in Shanice World go check it out. Shanice talks about a lot of things, including how some artists (that she did background vocals for) hurt her feelings, by asking her if that's all she was now? Is a back-up singer. It's a great piece so check it out!

**SHANICE INTERVIEW**

What's up on my birthday I'm still reporting Shanice news, lol. Shanice recently did an interview with Peeps & she talked about performing on broadway. She said it was something that she really enjoyed & she wants to do it again. She even wants to do movies. Shanice also talked about Babyface & how he kept her busy before her album was ready. Shanice says he is the most down to earth person she has ever met in the business. And she thanks God for him everyday. About the album Shanice said she wrote it from her life. Like "You can bounce" came from a friend of hers who was married to a guy. And when they were about to split Shanice says her friend told her about their aurguments about the house & Shanice wrote the song from that. She says her favorite song on the new album is "Yesterday" because she wrote it also because it's a song where the woman is leaving the man for once. About her personal life she says she is single & in no rush for a relationship. She says she rushed in one before & it was a mess. In her free time she likes to go rollar skating, to the mall, hang with her friends & work out. And the last thing Shanice talked about was her favorite CD's out right now, TLC & Lauryn Hill. Shanice says she was supposed to do a duet with Lauryn for the album (something I did not know) but due to Lauryn's busy schedule it fell through. Fear not though, Shanice says she still wants to do it.

Now you can find the interview on The Official Shanice Website in the links section in real audio. We also added to our site, performance footage of Shanice in the video section. Shanice performs "You can bounce", You need a man", "Fly away", "Yesterday" & "When I close my eyes". It also shows the blind fold part that Helena's been talking about. So go to our video section & check it out.

**SHANICE ON THE TUBE THIS WEEK & AND MUCH MORE**

It's been a few days & you know I like to report Shanice news. But I've been real busy the last few weeks. Not to mention I'm leaving for Atlanta wednesday & my birthday is tomorrow (hint..hint) J/K. Let's get to the news. Don't miss Shanice this wednesday on NBC's late night talk show Later. She will perform & do a sit down interview. The whole show is hers. Real fans don't wanna miss it. I went through hell to find out that info, "LOL". On the same day Shanice will appear on BET's Planet Groove. Where she will perform various selections from her new disc (check the tv & mags section for more). Also peep out my main site, because Shanice is our artist of the month for april. I put my heart in that piece, "LOL". For real though to peep it click here.

"When I Close My Eyes" finds it's way to number 12 this week, up from number 16 last week. Sadly the album drops out of the top 100 on the pop charts & out of the top 30 on the R&B. I won't say what numbers, only if their up. So that tells me that we need to do more promotion, "LOL". No people know how fly the album is. LaFace plans to drop "Yesterday" as soon as her current hit starts to fall. So album sales will pick back up. So don't sweat it. We also opened our Shanice fanz section last week & we have some people who e-mailed us, but were still looking for more. Funny how there are webmasters left who have Shanice sites who have not signed up for Shanice fanz (hint..hint) "LOL" your fanz e-mail me. On that note Shanice will turn 26 on May 14. And we plan to make a huge birthday card for Shanice. The card will be up on April 14 & will stay up til her birthday. You will be able to wish her all of the best as many times as you want, we want to find all the fans we can so tell a friend. Shanice will get the wishes also. So don't sleep on the chance to wish her a happy birthday.

And last my friend Helena has the hook up on the New York Shanice album release party pics. So make sure you go visit her site & check them out at Shanice's Palace. You can find the site in the links, but you know it already. I should be on today & tomorrow on the board & I might have somemore news before I jet on wednesday. In case I don't while I'm in Atlanta at an Usher conference (don't ask), I will be at LaFace Records for some things. So I will try to get some promotinal items for some give-aways when I return on Wednesday April 13. That also means the site will not be updated til then. But as always much love to all the Shanice fans & I'll speak to you all soon!

**SHANICE ON "GIRLS NITE OUT"**

Shanice said "It was a lot of fun and none of the girls tried to out do eachother. They all showed unity". That's great to hear. Shanice also said the song they all sing together on is "I'm every woman".

**MOTOWN LIVE, HOWIE, "YESTERDAY" & MORE**

So sorry all, Motown Live pulled a fast one on us. They ran an episode featuring Shanice without no notice of it ahead of time. I really hope you all caught it, because she was wonderful. She performed "You Need A Man" with her dancers and killed it. If ya missed it, summer is coming it will re-run. Shanice also appeared on The Soul Train Awards on friday, she presented with Keith Sweat & she again looked beautiful as she gave the award to Lauryn Hill. As Tyra Banks was introducing her she said she's been meaning to get in contact with Shanice & for Shanice not to leave without getting her number. Could modeling be in the future for Shanice? What better then a supermodel to discover another supermodel. I had to mention that. It's been a busy week for Shanice, who on Thursday (Thanks to Helena at Shanice's Palace) taped an episode of The Howie Mandel Show to air at a later date. Then on Friday The Soul Train Awards, so where is Shanice now? Try Washington D.C, yep Shanice will perform this weekend at The African-American Showcase at the DC Armory. Also with her is my boy Jesse Powell, Zapp, Roger & more. Also according to our friend Helena, Shanice finished her shoot for "Yesterday" last week. According to LaFace Records the next single off of her disc. The video should premier in mid-april.

MARCH 26, 1999
**A JAPANESE EXCLUSIVE**

It was brought to my attention last week that there is a bonus track on the japanese imports of Shanice. Well this week I got a little more info, the song is called "Dreamin" & it was written & produced by Babyface. I have not heard the single yet, but I did manage to get my hands on the lyrics. Another Babyface smash, so peep it & then go to the message board to express your feelings about japanese imports, "LOL". I know some are upset that it's only on the import. I know I am.

MARCH 25, 1999
**SINGLE SALE & GIRLS NITE OUT**

If your looking for a way to support our girl Shanice, go pick up another copy of her single "When I Close My Eyes". Now you can get the single for $1.99 at all Sam Goody & Musicland locations. A $1.99 is worth seeing Shanice reach the top of the singles chart. So go out & support. Well I got a little more news on "Girls Nite Out", Shanice will perform "When I Close My Eyes" & "Yesterday" (Her next single). It now will air in mid-april on BET so keep your eyes & ears open.
For more on Girls Nite Out visit the main site. If you visit please sign the guestbook, it's new so it would be greatly appreciated.

**THE CHARTS**

Well there's good news & bad news. Good news for the single, because with the release of the single in retail it jumps to number 16 on the hot 100. Shanice has only had one other hit that went higher then that, "I love your smile". She also moves in the top ten on the R&B chart. Bad news for the album though, it drops from #56 to (I can't say it, I'm O.K) # 82 & out of the top 20 on the R&B chart. People we have got to do more promotion, "LOL", like we work for her, bur we do because were fans. So let's promote the tightest R&B CD to hit the stores in 99'. Jeff has some idea, e-mail him to see what he has in mind? I already told him, it better be leagel, because we don't have no bail money : )
