September 17, 2015: Lebanon Hills: Jensen Lake Hike (Eagan)

Join the hiking group for a hike around and about Jensen Lake in Lebanon Hills Regional Park in Eagan.

Lebanon Hills Regional Park consists of over 2,000 acres of naturally preserved parkland with moraines, eskers and numerous pothole lakes. The Park is situated on a large expanse of naturally preserved parkland, with 40 percent of its land area grassland and the remainder wetland and forest dominated by red oak. Surface water resources consist of widely dispersed small lakes and ponds, the largest of which is the 55-acre Jensen Lake.

Jensen Lake, the largest lake in Eagan, is unstocked, populated with bullheads, and only 6.5 feet deep. Lebanon Hills derives its name from nearby Lebanon Township (now Apple Valley). Jensen Lake was named after early settlers to the area. The city of Eagan was named in honor of Patrick Eagan, an Irish immigrant who moved to the area in 1853, staked a claim of 220 acres, and was the first chairman of the town board of supervisors.

Directions: Take I-35E to Eagan and exit on Cliff Road. Proceed east on Cliff Road 1½ mile to Pilot Knob Road. Turn south on Pilot Knob Road and proceed 7/10ths of a mile to Carriage Hills Drive. Turn east on Carriage Hills Drive then turn right immediately into the first parking lot, where the group will meet.
