4/18/2002: Springbrook Nature Center (Fridley)

Join the hiking group for an exploration of the Springbrook Nature Center in Fridley. Created by the City of Fridley in 1974, the nature center is a 127 acre park containing more than 350 unique plant species, including Hoary Puccoons, Large-Flowered Beardtongues, Yellow Goatsbeards, Wild Columbines, Trilliums, Gentians, and Orchids, and various animals, including the threatened Blandings turtle, white-tailed deer, red and gray fox, beaver, mink, and great-horned owls. The nature center has three miles of hiking trails and one-half mile of boardwalk over wetlands. The nature center was hit by a tornado in July, 1986, which destroyed several acres of mature oak forest.
