8/3: Minnesota Landscape Arboretum (Chanhassen)

Join the hiking group for a hike around the varied gardens, grounds, groves, and wetlands of the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Chanhassen. The Arboretum has free admission on Thursdays after 4:30 P.M. and is open until sunset.

From Minneapolis:

Take 35W to I-494 west to State Hwy. 5 (exit 11C). OR, take 35W to the Crosstown (62), go west and follow the signs to Hwy. 212, but do not exit the highway, and continue west on State Hwy. 5. Follow State Hwy. 5 for about 9.25 miles, past Chanhassen, past the intersection of State Hwy. 5 and State Hwy. 41. Just past the intersection of State Hwy. 41, there will be a small brown sign on the right-hand side of the road just before the Arboretum entrance. On the left you will see the large, pale-gray entrance sign. Take a left-hand turn off Hwy. 5 onto the Arboretum Drive.

From St. Paul:

Take I-494 to State Hwy. 5 (exit 11C) OR take I-94 west to I-494, go south to State Hwy. 5 (exit 11C). Follow State Hwy. 5 for about 9.25 miles, past Chanhassen, past the intersection of State Hwy. 5 and State Hwy. 41. Just past the intersection of State Hwy. 41, there will be a small brown sign on the right-hand side of the road just before the Arboretum entrance. On the left you will see the large, pale-gray entrance sign. Take a left-hand turn off Hwy. 5 onto the Arboretum Drive.

Highway 5 Traffic Delays:

Construction to widen State Highway 5 on the way to the Arboretum has begun. The construction zone extends from the west end of Chanhassen to State Highway 41. According to MN-DOT, one lane of traffic will remain open in each direction at all times. However, Arboretum visitors should anticipate short delays. MN-DOT expects to complete the project by the end of June 2002.

Alternate route to the Arboretum:

If you are driving west on 94/394/12, you may go south on 100, 169, 73, 494 or 101 to Highway 7. Head west on 7, turn south on 41, west on Highway 5, and continue the very short distance to the Arboretum. If you are driving from the south on 494, you can go north an extra couple of miles to Highway 7, head west to 41 and proceed as above.

The group will recovene at a nearby restaurant for dessert or dinner afterwards.
