Hamsters!! What can they do... Well.. hmm... They are kind of boring
little critters, but they each have their own little stories...
The explination of their names took a while to discover, after careful
observation of the little rodents, I came up with names. David was named
after David Letterman, because he had a little crack inbetween his two
front teeth... Everyone thought the name fit him well, and they all got
a chuckle from it. Peter... Peter was a hard animal to name, but after
I (and many others) found out, Peter liked to wait until you had him on
your shirt, or sitting on you pants, to pee, I came up with the name Peter.
Sometimes we just called him 'Pete' for short.
I got mine from my neighbor... He bought his from a petstore, and one
of them just exploded with little furballs. I originally wanted two females,
but he only had one female, so I got two males, and they were nice to
eachother. Then we got those little plastic tubes for them to run around
in... Big Mistake.. They fought over who got to sleep under the tube that
led to the little maze, and they fought over who was in what tube and
why... So of course, we split them up, and yet again they were leading
happy little lives.
Of course, Peter and David being so small compared to us humans, their
lives are considerably shorter than our life span. I was always expecting
to find them 'gone' because of this fact, but sometimes you just don't
want to think about it. So one night, I was reaching into the cage to
put food in the dish for Peter, and since I was such a nice person I decided
to pick him up, and put him by his food, so it would just be easier on
him... I cried and cried and cried... Peter was the first pet I had ever
really lost. He died on June 23, 1996... But he lived to be about 5 years
of age... Which I did NOT expect at all.
And dear David... He became sick not too long after Peter had died (loneliness,
disease, we will never know). And it was expected he was going to die
'soon'. So one night I decided to spend the night at my friends house,
and before I left I picked up little David and told him to be strong,
and I told him I hoped I could see him when I came home the next morning.
I came home to find David dead, but, he had held on to his life, he was
still warm when I picked him up. David died during the moring of July
29th 1996.
I love you Peter and David! Even though, you were spoiled rotten little
fuzzy hamsters with horrible tempers!!
