Issues: Vision

"Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, BLIND, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw."-Matthew 12:22

All of the members of my family have glasses! I remember I was teasing a kid in school about his parents being "four eyes". Then the kid had a great comeback by saying that at least my whole family don't have glasses-ouch!

It's Thursday, June 29th 2006 and I decided to write a webpage on this topic. Why? It's probably because I'm looking for the best deal on eye exams and eye glasses (see down below). I decided to reflect on this topic...

"And he turned him unto [his] disciples, and said privately, Blessed [are] the eyes which see the things that ye see:"-Luke 10:23

  • 45 Million People are Blind Christian Agency Laments Fate of Blind People in Poor Countries By Wolfgang Polzer Special to ASSIST News Service Wednesday, October 15, 2008

  • "BENSHEIM (ANS) -- Approximately 45 million people worldwide are blind.
37 million are suffering from blindness caused by disease, and eight million lack visual aids, according to the German Christian development agency Christoffel Mission to the Blind (CBM) in Bensheim near Frankfurt.
The most common cause of blindness is cataract. Nearly one in two blind people suffer from this disease. Cataract, a clouding of the lens, can be cured by a simple operation even after years of blindness.
Other widespread causes of blindness particularly in poor developing countries are vitamin deficiency and lack of hygiene. Blindness in poor countries is often accompanied by poverty according to CBM.
Blind people often lack social assistance and employment. Roughly 90 percent of all blind children in poor countries cannot go to school.
CBM is the oldest and largest Christian aid agency involved in the prevention and cure of blindness in developing countries. The agency was founded by Rev. Ernst Christoffel (1876-1955) and is assisting 20 million people in 110 countries. "
